As a Canadian, what do I need to know about and do to legally accept gigs in the USA?

DON’T DOIT… Nooooooooooo…
We don’t need the competition! (Hehehehe!) Just kidding… besides, I believe in the ‘cooperation’ model, NOT the ‘competition’ model so it’s all good with me! I would say talk to Shawn, Murray or Anders, Trevor, (etc) or some of your fellow kanuks and see what they say. Deano <>< PS THANKS for joining us on the call! You Rock!

Hey Scott,
Two type of situations (possibly more?). Either you are seeking work in the U.S. from an American company/business/individual etc., or you are being asked by a company with offices in Canada (or a Canadian company) to perform for them (ie. trade show, special trip event etc.) in the U.S. For a company here in Canada whom you have solicited work from and they ask you to perform in the U.S., you go in as an employee of the company. You are hired here by them, you are paid here etc. For individual shows in the U.S., you have to have the booking group apply for a "permit" for you. Write a request etc. When I looked into it, it seems to become a lot of "hassle" for your client to go though perhaps for only one show. For a long term engagement, of course, it would be work it for them. I am interested in hearing others actual experiences in this matter. Blair

I would think it'd be the same for americans to work in canada.
I remember when we'd tour up there we'd have to have a worker's permit. my father even had a SS# too. I'm also sure that things have changed in the past 20 years.

I've never worked in the USA but if you Google "P3 Visa" you might find a few tid-bits.
