Does anyone know where to get solid red crocheted balls that are the size of a tennis ball. (like the one's used in the Vernon/Mendoza Routine from Volume 2 of "My Best")
I know Brett Sherwood has some but I think they all have metallic thread. I'm looking for solid red. I'm also looking for the shiny red balls that he used with the johnson cups. I've found some lacrosse balls that will not fit, plus getting the right color and shine is a pain. I would be interested in solid red crocheted balls that are the size of a lacrosse ball, as well. thanks, Brandon |

Someone suggested going to a care facility and asking if anyone there crochets. I know my mother's generation could do it and it was pretty simple. She did several for me.

LOL, yeah I've thought of that, but then I would have to find a ball slightly smaller than a tennis ball or slightly smaller than a lacrosse ball.
I want to just buy them. |

1) A tennis ball is larger than a lacrosse ball, unless you have a lacrosse ball that is actually larger than the permissible legal size or you have a tennis ball that is less than the permissible legal size. Legal here refers to the rules of the game.
2) Lacrosse balls are not shiny. 3) I have the shiny red balls that John used with those cups. They are ordinary red rubber balls that you purchase at a toy shop. They may not be available all the time. They are NOT silicone balls. 4) You can get the proper load balls with a crocheted cover; however, you really need to know what the actual size of the ball you want to use is. You can't say, for example, "the size of a lacrosse ball." There is too much variation in the size of lacrosse balls to depend on them. Francois and Pascaline Danis can make them for you. So can James Tong.

Yeah, I've learned the hard way that there is too much variation in the size of lacrosse balls. I painted a set and put on a clear coat, which was a lot of trouble. I've looked in all kinds of toys stores with no luck, I guess I'll just keep looking.
Bill: thanks for the heads up about Francois and Pascaline Danis, and James Tong! |
