Get a Dollar sized Penny and a magnifying glass and you can do Dishonest Abe.

The routining is slightly different, but otherwise the effect is pretty much the Barry Taylor routine I mentioned above. A penny grows large, then turns jumbo. I've only been back into magic for a year or so now after a very long hiatus, so I don't know about "Dishonest Abe", but I first saw Barry perform his routine in his shop when I was about 14.

I'm 49 now.

I have to say, IMHO the magnifying glass adds to the routine - it gives a reason to go into the pocket that seems very natural.

Should have said it in my earlier post: thanks to both TC and inigmntoya
for the links. When I clicked on TC's dishonest Abe link, youtube showed several interesting variations on the dishonest Abe routine - makes me want to get a Sudbury II!

I sort of agree that the magnifying glass adds a little something, but who walks around with one of those things?

Not many people walk around with magic wands either. You could get a small one that fits on your keychain.

I just received this magnifying glass (from China, what a surprise), it is inexpensive, small, fits in your pocket easily and generally perfect for the Dishonest Abe routine: http://cgi.ebay.com/LED-Illuminated-Magn......4ecadce5
See what you think.

I picked up a bunch of small plastic magnifying glasses to carry around. These are give-aways, especially for kids. They cost about five cents each. I also give away the plastic "big" coins, which cost about the same amount. This is fun.
