I think it'd mean "calmer", as placate means to calm.

Correct, to a point. Placate really goes a bit deeper, as it means to "calm" by appeasing someone, sort of "giving in", or agreeing to something you might not ordinarily agree to, as a way of calming them...
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"

I don't agree. To placate is to pacify or to calm; in this I completely agree with mandarin. I disagree with the suggestion that "placater" is a progressive, meaning "more calm". Rather, "placater"--which is a very uncommon form by the way--is a noun: it refers to someone or something that placates.

e.g. Ice cream was the placater for my child.

I'd say a synonym would be "appeaser."

There is no "way to peace." Peace is the way.

Valid points here. I did't mean "calmer" as in someone being more calm, but as in singer,
doer, teller etc.

A placater placates, of course.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary, the official dictionary in the United States, has the following definition for placate.
Quote:
: to soothe or mollify especially by concessions : appease

So, placate will often implies concessions, but it need not do so.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary lists pacify as a synonym.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.
