I've had the pleasure of meeting James and his stage act is only bettered by what he does afterwards! - He is really in his element doing impromptu.
In magic he gets away with moves that would scare the hee-bee-geebies off most and just does them. Nice bloke as well! Oh and he does some mean pick-pocket and watch stealing as well - I hate him!

Let me re-phrase that. I was running out of the house as I wrote it. So let me change my statement:
It's still potentially illegal unless performing with the correct licensing and insurance. No offense to James, as I have no idea whether this applies to him personally. That's what I meant. |

So on a thread about James Brown with James Brown in the title you chose to add something that helps no one and that you have absolutely no idea if it even applies to James Brown?
I mean what really it it contributing to anything posting "Still illegal"? Talk about having nothing to say and posting for the sake of it.

James doesn't apply for licenses he told me himself. And most likely doesn't have the proper insurance.
that's his choice. Personaly my opinion is in a sue happy world of no win no fee its a bit like playing Russian Roulette. Just about everybody I know knows someone with a claim in progress or completed. Heck I even have on ongoin myself for a hotel that had no mats in the bath and I slipped having a shower. My lawyer reckons its worth between 5k and 10k. Personally I wouldn't dream of doing hypnosis without the proper legal protection in place. And I've been around performing when it gets ugly with the media. Trust me you don't want to leave yourself in a vulnerable position. |

Once again, a case that proves the Pilgrims were right....
And people wonder why I have no intention of ever going back to the U.K.

It would be the same in the US I would guess Richard? If somebody slipped or tripped and broke something or had a bad injury wouldn't they try and sue you?
I thought we adopted the sueing culture from you guys? I am still recieving physio after injuring my hip nearly two years ago. Its a genuine claim. |

MP - spoke to James. He doesn't apply for licence as he does not do stage hypnosis shows. He incorporates suggestion into magic and pick pocketing. No licence is obtainable for doing a party in someones house or for a drinks reception in a hotel.

He does hypnosis. Its pretty clear on Youtube. Either way call it what you want. If someone sues you because they fell over and banged their head and injured themselves and they tell lawyers what was happening at the time.....
Whether you do hypnosis or not all performers should carry insurance to cover themselves for what they are doing. TGhe law doesn't talk about stage hypnosis shows. It talks aout any public demonstrations of hypnosis. Maybe you or James could get away with it forever. But if somebody gets injured you might find yourself in a bad place. Lets hope it never happens. The more people doing this kind of stuff the chances increase. |

Too right. I tripped over all the £100 notes I made. I used to bathe in them every day. I almost drowned once there were so many. I must remember never to do that again...and get into pubs and streets like a real man. That way I won't ever be able to afford a hotel and will be safe. Until someone trips on a kerb that is. Ahhh but I'll be safe cause there aint such a thing as hypnosis ;-) Right boys? Shhhhhhh, nod wink wink!
