I think you miss MY point.
I think many people - including "libs" - do not care if others use their honestly earned money to try and influence policy legally as Soros is apparently doing. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and to the the right to try and influence opinion using legal means. I think people get upset when people use their money to try and influence policy AND then subsequently profiteer off of the policy changes. It is the latter that many people were accusing Halliburton of doing, and I think that is why they were upset. And I only mention Halliburton because you brought it up as an example.

Donation is the white shoe boys talk for bribe. I don't why people get upset about it. You can't beat a good bribe.

So if the Soros thing builds to what you say Haliburton did (I think it already has) then you will cry foul? Or will it be more excuses and understanding for your ideology.

One could indeed make a logical arguement that is what they are.

It is ok to have an "interest" in a company like he does, as long as that is not a profitable one? Are you making a joke here? It should and does not matter if he makes money or not, if the appearance of impropriety exists with Halliburton that is enough, so why does this guy get a second standard? He and his money are funding the think tank that has very direct influence over a White House administration. He is invested in companies that can directly (I am not saying have or will but COULD) profit from this sort of thing. How is this not wrong in your book? Is it the simple fact that he has either not made money, or is able to hide the fact that he does? Is that the new standard, and if so why is it so different from the standards other administrations are held to? No real need to answer the question is more rhetorical in nature. I am certain I know why the standard is different.

Danny, you keep making statements and portray they as though they are things I said or agree with, even though they are not. Come on.
"It is ok to have an "interest" in a company like he does" Any investor can have an interest in a company, whether it is profitable or not. That's a part of modern capitalism, I suppose. "if the appearance of impropriety exists with Halliburton that is enough" I _never_ said the "appearance of impropriety" was enough to attack a company.

Is it ok with such a vested interest for him and his money to influence policy in that area?
I can't wait for to post the story when he makes money and cry foul.

Of course they are making plans. Regulators will make all the operators have skimmers and all that stuff because they will be convinced this will happen every few weeks. Of course that is not a bad thing but what will happen is some American company will get the job making the skimmers etc by touting jobs for Americans and then they'll make everything in Chine and the only employees here will be sales and accounting along with the execs.
