Vortex arrived this morning. So far, I've only had chance to read the essays at the end and have quick look through a few of the effects in the parlour and stage sections. The essay are excellent; in particular the essay on the Too Perfect Theory, which has some really interesting ideas about balance that make a lot of sense to me.
In my first quick flip through, I've already found a couple of routines that have real value. The first is Concerto's for Cutlery: I'd read Steinmeyer's routine for doing the Piano Trick with knives and forks in Conjuring Anthology and, while I thought it was a nice idea, I was never overly convinced by the magical content of it - but Tom's simple addition to the effect makes the magic clearer and turns it into a routine that I might actually perform. And the handling for the Linking Finger Rings (Gold wielder) is worth the price of the book. Tom says he has already sent enough material to Stephen Minch for a second volume, so let’s hope that Volume 2 gets published. It could be called "Moretex" perhaps? (You can have that for free Tom). I received my copy too ^^
I can't actually say how pleased I am, because no word can convey how good this material is. I'm actually working on some coins ideas, and next I will give Tom's version of Benson's bowl a try... Thanks Tom and I hope a second volume will be available ! Oh and by the way : I have a title for you..."Toroflux (or torofluxus)" which to me is a 3D vortex !! Last but not least : if you LOVE magic, get this book !! |

I have been on the road for work. I have anxiously been awaiting the arrival of this wonderful book. Mssr. Stone's outstanding work has been coming out, in print, much too slowly for my taste. Every so often he would tease us with yet another excellent pdf.
There is something about a book that exists in the real world. Ink, paper and glue should not hold such sway with me but they do. I found the package with Vortex in it, this morning. It was hiding from me under a pile of bills and other dross. I've read through two of the routines that I had a modicum of familiarity with. The introduction is marvelous. I've waited a very long time to read and consider this book by Tom Stone. I"d write even more platitudes but I don't have the time. I have to go get a bowl, some super glue and a huge number of sponge balls. Thank you Mr. Stone, Mr. Minch. The book's a treasure. |

This book is GREAT! This is a very easy read, instructions are written nicely and the effects are all very good. For a serious entertainer in magic- this should be a must have! GREAT job Tom!

Has anyone tried Tom Stone's Bunsen Burner effect. I have created the set up; however, my loads do not break. All that happens is that a small hole is made. Does anyone have any tips?

Tom is probably the best to advise you on this but do you have the loads stuffed full enough so the outer skin is sufficiently stretched under tension?

Richard asked for advice via PM, and I think his problem is solved now.
