Greetings,
I was wondering what the opinions of this vast and wide tree of learning would be on a good quality silk vanishing wand. I am looking for something to perhaps use in my street routine with a good bit of flash and visual effect and this popped to mind. I know that the reset might be hard to do on the street but at the right time it might be a great add in. Just wanted to see what others thought, good quality sources for the wand and what the price range on a good quality wand would be. Thanks in advance |

These props tend to destroy silks. As the magicians' silk importer this is good for business but also turns magicians off on silk magic.
It amazes me how there are so many beginner magicians who destroy at least $10 worth of card decks or will cut up $5 worth of rope a show but won't replace a $3 silk once a month. It is a reality of the population. In this effect, silks are just an expendable supply item. That's OK, if the magician replaces the damaged supply item rather than continuing using it. Using shoddy props tells a story we just don't need. The wands are good magic but they "eat" silks. (Fish hooks do snag silks on purpose!) Please encourage magicians to replace the silk supplies just as they would rope or cards. Professionals "invest" in their acts. The money saved can actually be very expensive in the end. Drake, perhaps using one of these vanishing silk wands would be a problem for using during a street performance. Reason being is any sort of jolt, small movement or any item touching the end of the wand (snagging Portion as mentioned by Bob)would cause it to release at a moments notice. It would take a lot of work to configure a place on your body or in your pouch etc. to keep this from happening. Could really disrupt your flow if that happened and you were depending on it at a moments notice.
As Bob mentioned they really do tear up a good silk in time after a few uses. We had to re configure the tricky end of business by Modifying a Hook to hold the silk in place. We engineered a nice set up that holds the silk in place over the end of the wand until I need to do the dirty deed. So far we havent torn any silks yet over a 2 year period. If you want ... PM me and I can send a link to show you how we use it in a portion of our program. But if you feel you can do this in your set-up, then as Bob says, when you look at the cost of the replacement silks , its really not a bad idea to use these other silk wands. Hopefully other folks can write in and let you know where they found their wands at. These wands will be the snag method, Cost is reasonable from what I remember, and I think there are 2 types out there. The post is hidden somewhere in this section, hopefully someone will read this and be able tyo pull up that link for you. I thought Tannens had one but I would keep asking around... Good luck! |
