Fred it is not just a person it might be a cultural thing. There are alot of diffrent types of cultures in the world and with them diffrent customs that may not make sense to us but to them their beliefs are so ingrained it is obvious.

Take this for example I was watching a discovery channel show on casino's and a casino manager was saying that you never send a white limo to pick up a asian gambler. In asia white represents death, now if you were unknowledgeable about this then you would insult this person or "bring him bad luck" and have no idea why.

My point being just beacuse you think some action is commonplace it may be so in your culture but in others it may differ drastically.

I'm a born and bred Brit and I can't remember ever meeting anyone in Britain who thought it was rude to ask or use their name. I'm sure that there are some Brits who are an exception, though.
