WHOA! Woke up this morning and logged on to this furor and I'm somewhat taken aback.
OK, let me first address my mistakes: 1. Probably should have listened to my inner misgivings and put the Zarrow or PS shuffle question in a separate thread. Apologies for any confusion. 2. I quote a 'Zarrow vs. PS Battle'. Agreed, I haven't seen a specific Zarrow vs. PS battle on the MC (I have elsewhere) and I am not insinuating that ANY of you would be childish or hateful enough to enter open flaming on such a discussion. Stoney... This was my first ever post in here, and I'm pretty sure you all garnered that from the tone of said post. I posted in the good faith that the members who frequented this part of the Café would subscribe to the ethos of 'magicians helping magicians' and provide any kind of insight into the transition between hands and table work as a predominate performance arena. Then I read... Quote:
All we really care about here is what gets (or could get) the money. There is NO description whatsoever echoing that sentiment in the forum subject line written by Steve Brooks. As people have given responses that indicate that they 'care' otherwise, I would say that that is a self-defeating statement. I also appreciate the fact that you all work tables. I would have assumed that some of your number would have experience from working 'in the hands' as I put it. Even if you work exclusively with tables, I still would have thought a tip or two wouldn't have put too many people out. Also, I posted here after PMing several magician mates who stated that I could gain some valuable insight in this part of the Café. It has become increasingly and blatantly evident that I have posted in the wrong place, due to the irrelevant (perhaps irreverent) subject matter. Apologies. Quote:
I've never done a card trick standing up in my entire life. And I'd bet I'm not alone here in this forum. That's PRECISELY why I came here. What better way to ascertain quality advice from people who work tables EXCLUSIVELY. I see words and phrases like 'watering down' and 'perverse'. There definitely seems to be an implicit and somewhat unspoken agenda of exclusivity here. I dare say I haven't seen it on this level even in the workers section, even with all their stupid petty arguments I detest so much. Either way, I will cease posts here forthwith. Sincere thanks to all who answered any of my questions; including Stoney, AMcD,Robert and The Dowser. I appreciate the fact you all hold an enormous passion for your craft. Please shoot me PM if you wish to discuss anything further. Would be more than happy to have a chat. Apologies for wasting bandwidth or 'watering down the forums'. Regards, Chappo

Yeah, well, had he posted the same thread over in "Penny for your thoughts" they would have chased him away with swords and swami gimmicks.
If you read the thread carefully, I was completely nice and friendly until the OP said, Quote:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!! It's happening already... Zarrow vs. Push Through in response to my post. That hurt my feelings. |

I feel ok standing behind the bar or at blackjack tabbles which are the right height. Even when sitting at the poker table I have to be at the right height in relation to the table. A table a little too high is so uncomfortable that I can’t work at them. If you look at dealers in a casino you will see they are seated high for that reason.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

"There is NO description whatsoever echoing that sentiment in the forum subject line written by Steve Brooks. As people have given responses that indicate that they 'care' otherwise, I would say that that is a self-defeating statement."--- this is true, but it is also true that it ( the description) does not mention magic, for this area of the Café. Pick your battles.

Tommy - that was a hilarious response. I pretty much busted out laughing after the first sentence.
Chappo - Don't be scared to post/read through the gambling forum. There's a wealth of knowledge and some really cool stuff posted.

On another note, what are you talking about when you talk about Steve's original description of this forum? Unlike many other forums, this one has nothing sticky other than some kind of legalize that has nothing to do with this particular forum. If you mean the small text description that follows the main heading, there is only this:
Quote:
History, theory and ideas surrounding the mysterious world of the unscrupulous gambler. Topics may include card cheating, card counters, advantage players, etc. Strategies, theories and schemes for winning at Poker, BlackJack, Slots, Roulette, Craps and other casino games. Please notice that there is no mention of the word "magic". As to this statement: "There is NO description whatsoever echoing that sentiment in the forum subject line written by Steve Brooks..." referring to this statement: "All we really care about here is what gets (or could get) the money", I just don't see the contradiction. The "mysterious world of the unscrupulous gambler" is precisely the world of how to get the money through unscrupulous means. Steve himself used the word "unscrupulous". The big guy! The Brooksmeister! If I was out of line in all this, sorries all the way 'round, and may I be banned for life. Jeff |

Find a copy of marlo's book on the shank shuffle put out by racherbaumer in ' 72.spend a year on the shuffle.you'll have something of value that can be taken anywhere there is a table, any highth, any lighting.the thing appears haphazard, can be made to look sloppy.the zarrow and push-thru serve magicians.there is an touch to the shank, after the unweave the cards are raised forward on their edges almost perp to the table(no bottom card peek) and "cartwheeled"w/one hand back into a square deck.this mimics something a half-assed card player would do and enhances the sloppy handling.spend the year, you'll be pleased.the book is kinda hard to find.

As for the Zarrow vs. Push through argument I am definitely in favour of the Zarrow, as after performing both I find the Zarrow to look more convincing if performed well'
