Hello, my friends. May I ask for an idea or two?
I’m looking for an "iconic relic" to use as a point of contact to be selected by a sitter/victim/querant. Wanting to represent Land, Sea, and Air, I have a medium sized (14”) cattle horn and a very large and beautiful conch shell for the first two, respectively. However, I’m at a complete loss as to what to use for Air. Even the largest feathers I can obtain (peacock) aren’t really in scale with the other two items. A “chicken’s foot” would take the effect in a direction I don’t really want. The piece should be “organic” in nature, simple in form, and representative of flight (or at least of not being bound to the earth.) Replicas are ok, if they are realistic in the extreme, as the spectator will be holding the item throughout the effect. Please, can someone offer a suggestion? I’m drawing a blank. Thank You, Don

Don I had a copy of ideas, what is the size of the other two objects? As this may help in formulating a suggestion.

I don't think the size will match up, but I'd use a stick of incense for air.

I'd suggest a statue of a bird or cloud made out of a natural material such as jade, sandstone or marble

A taxidermied wing? Bird nest? A balloon is not very organic, how about an inflated pig bladder or similar?

Some macaw feathers can be quite large, as well as colorful and impressive.

You may be able to find an entire bird's wing. They are frequently used by shamans for fanning incense. Personally, however, I would suggest using a fan. There are many elaborate ones, including ones made of bone and feather.

You might use the Cattle horn as air (Horn, as in blowing through, rather that a cows hat)
It's probably easier to find an object representing earth, than air. A rock or a stone carving, a growing plant, a vial or clear box with sand or dirt, bones of a mole or a stuffed mole (Just after he's eaten a carrot?)

Wow! I certainly asked in the right place. Thank you all for your suggestions. These are great!
I have several eagle statues in various sizes, but don’t think it has quite the same “feel” as something that was once a “part” of an animal. I didn’t think about Macaw feathers, and I may already know a local source. Also someone suggested ostrich plumes (beautiful, though technically flightless). I’m looking at both of those right now. The local Cherokee have an annual “pow wow” not far from here, where I might be able to obtain a fan from simulated eagle feathers. Also found a (replica) bald eagle skull on one of the sites mentioned here. It’s clean, the beak is easily recognizable, and it’s in the size range of the other items. It’s a little pricey, but it’s really striking. Thanks for all of the ideas. Don
