I use a Sanada gimmick , it works well for me...I know, there are plenty of ways to learn switch without a gimmick, and sometimes a regular gimickless switch works out better, depending on the effect...I think it works better and is not as awkward as a TT, though
I had to sand and paint mine to match my skin tone, but it is virtually invisible |

In it he teaches a tipless bill switch. I'm not sure its any easier than a TT one, but you don't have to fumble getting the bill into the TT, and your hands can be shown empty essentially the whole time - It looks very clean, and you can hand out the bill afterwards. I think this method is also in SWITCH. Not in the same class of methods, but Two Dollar Window is a very easy way to do a transformation from two bills to a single other bill. With a simple modification to the gimmick, you could hand this out at the end.

The T.T. bill switch I like is Roger Klause's handling for it. His way of doing the switch is in his book Roger Klause in Concert. Written by Lance Pierce. It's also described in the Switch book.
Roger took all the tells out of the switch I feel. It's the only way I do the switch. |

I agree with RS1963.
I first learnt the Roger Klause Bill switch about 12 years ago. I've tried some of the other switches e.g. Visi Bill, Juan 100 dollar Bill switch but still come back to the Roger Klause version. I also like very much the Juan 100 dollar bill switch and now use it occasionally without the TT using some of the handlings described in John Lovick's book. Michael J |

I learned it off Ammar's DVD. I prefer the Mismade rather than the $100 plot. I've also used Sankey's "moving holes" thing and a Jim Sisti routine called Transmutation from the Magic Menu. I've never been busted using the T.T. and I got a lot of pride and satisfaction from learning to do it correctly.

Yknow what's a pretty good DVD package on Bill Switches that I came across? The Reserve. It's billed as the ultimate collection of bill switches and beyond, and I have to say that it is. It's a great package that comes with about 10+ bill switches (15 effects) of all varieties, PLUS it includes a TT and a little sumthin' sumthin' for even more bill switch mayhem.
This is a very nice little set at a great price. Plus I found that our very own Ben Salinas here on the Café demonstrates and explains all the effects. Man, that guy does a little bit of everything and does it all very well, from coins, close-up, cards to bill switches and probably even more than that, he's great and a wonderful teacher. Here's a peek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXAGAFo_V9g&feature=related Anyway, the DVD is expertly shot and explained and just very well done. If you want to get into bill switches, get this and look no further as this is a real treasure chest. And thanks for all the great help here on this. -Mb

Mb,
I came up with a triple bill switch 30 years ago based on Kowslowski's ideas. Back in the day I would change a one to a ten to a hundred. All bills were real. Later, based on an idea from a friend back then, I started doing one to hundred to mismade. This does require a TT, But was very clean and very magical. Granted, I worked on the handling for countless hours. I now do Extreme Burn for my bill switch. As you know, it uses multiple bills, and is extemely visual. It takes all the pressure of execution to a sane level, letting you focus on presentation. It frys audiences with a very clean, managable presentation. I know, it's not a single switch, or a double switch, but why not do a multiple switch? As suggested by a fellow magician, I'm looking into non TT single switch for the borrowed one to two dollar bill. You borrow the one and give the spectator the two. They doubled their money, and you left a lasting impression. Sammy

Sounds good Sammy my friend. Might've known you were digging this hole some 30 or so years back. The Reserve actually deals with kaslowsky famous bill switch (actually "Vlado's" I hear, and they give him the real credit for it historically). It expertly explains/demontrates a Triple Bill Switch too, as well as the use of the Mismade Bill and even deal with a Tip-less Switch and more. Also they have a unique way to do the Foreign Exchange bill switch of several different denomination foreign bills, pretty slick. It's a nice collection of this genre in one place taught by a very good teacher in our Ben Salinas.
As to Extreme Burn, I agree that it is the next level in bill switches for sure. I met up recently with TC Ryder here on the Café in NYC and he fried me with Extreme Burn 2.0 Man what a nice effect and quite immediately amazing, my kinda magic for sure. Looking to get that one soon. Thanks for reminding me on this. -Mb

M.M giving proper credit to Vlado May be a first. M.M. as we all know very rarely gives any credit to anyone. At least proper credit anyway.

Very nice trick but difficult to do with European currencies as money have different colours here.

Not difficult at all.
It's done with foreign bills all the time and the color variations actually add to the brilliance of the Changes. Here, take a look at this one done with with French bills...That's in Europe, right? http://arthur.tivoli.free.fr/ Bon appetite.

Marion,
You da MAN! I like that DVD The Reserve...I'm going to get that one. Hey, I've been happy doing Ammar's (w/T.T.), never been busted, and it gets great reactions, but I'm an old dog that needs to learn new trix, so thank you for those links!!! Doug |

Back in '83 I started with Roger Klause's handling in Michael Ammar's Encore 3. Then, when Brad Lancaster challenged me to develop a tipless switch, around 1991, I took a look at Jarle Leirpoll's Pocket Power. Then, I boiled the method down to its essence and changed the acquitment to something the matched my natural movements. I kept the Klause fold, because I liked how well that worked for getting the first bill out of play. Tipless is the way to go, because it's actually easier and allows for a natural hand position.

I use both a tt and a non tt method depending on where and when I'm performing.
The non tt method is very clean and allows the hands to be shown (apparently) empty at the conclusion of the change. I also use extreme burn but in a way not suggested by Richard Sanders. What I love about extreme burn is the anytime anywhere aspect. Huge impact for a one time preparation and handling so simple it's within everyone's grasp (unlike the tt bill switch which can take weeks to master). Nobody here has mentioned Greg Wilson's "foreign affair" which is effective when combined with a traditional bill switch to take the multiple currency gimmick out of play at the end of the effect.

Another vote for Switch by John Lovick. Every method imaginable is explained and it is a great read. I've formed more than one routine from the goldmine of information in Switch.

Switch by John Lovick is a great investment. If you get Reel Magic #1 ( first issue ) John describes the history of the book and also the bill switch history. Though, it differs from what Randy Wakeman describes in detail here:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&start=0 John then teaches his fav method, that is no TT. Looks fantastic. I prefer Kevin King's Money Morph. It does use a TT, but it shows so much more of the bill than the original Vlado method ( which was put out by Mike Kozlowski ). Jay Sankey has a killer routine called Fan Mail. Clarke |

In Lovicks book he includes Sankeys Travelling Expenses (P245) which is a very good presentation using the bill switch. After doing this people will often take the bill and fold it themselves in the belief the holes will move again.
