Yes it is. I use to go watch the Navy Academy play and it is a great sport.

Also, if you go into a tackle softly in soccer (footbal) you most likely will have a bone broken. You've got to go in hard. And when you go up for a ball with your head, you have to be fearless- many many broken noses league wide over the years. Also for those who don't know, when someone tries to kick something as hard as they can with their boot, and they miss and hit your bare leg, you are instantly crippled. Period.

Also, if you think footballers are "wussies" based on a few zillionaire european primadonnas- you know nothing about the game. Ever seen Alan Shearer? Absolutely tough as nails. And wouldn't dive if you paid him to.

You are correct. I know NOTHING about soccer. I don't find it interesting at all. It doesn't keep my attention. With that said, my wife and I have been watching it this year more b/c there is a lack of anything else good on the picture tube! My complaint isn't for the guys who jump in the air and wack the ball with their head. I'm talking about the guys who have the ball and another person is within an arms distance of them and there's a tangle and one guys bites the dirt screaming in agony when it was quite clear that very little if any contact actually occurred. Some of these guys go down and their post fall shenanigans are far more dramatic than Joe Namith when he broke his leg and the bone poking out thru his skin. It's a joke! I know there are serious injury's in Soccer. I get that. But the majority of it seems like a bunch of sissy crybabies that cant take a little pain. If you can't take a little pain in sports, then maybe chess is more up your alley!

Christopher, you've already been told in this thread that the reason that they act like 'sissy crybabies' is to extract a foul in their favour from the referee. Nothing more, nothing less, certainly not rocket science.
Let me know if you want me to explain it again.

Even then, like I said, its certainly not the majority. Unfortunately in recent years there have been a few high profile nations/teams/players, who have taken this to an extreme and given the game a poor image to a very small minority who don't really know the game.

If you can't take a little pain in sports, then maybe chess is more up your alley! A statement like that shows a complete ignorance to the true function of theatrical tumbles. Being able to take pain has nothing to do with the matter. Neither does looking like a sissy. Now, one could make the argument that by 'cheating' these players are sacrificing their dignity - but the same argument could be made about any cheating that goes on in the sports field. Not even I would be brazen enough to suggest that this was Christopher's intention. And on the subject of looking like a sissy... Why do American Football players wear spandex leggings? Do they not have any dignity?

There is no place for "theatrical tumbling" in the game. It is a black mark on the game, and referees have begun yellow carding divers- as they should. Don't worry, we won't let it ruin our sport.

I pulled my kid out of soccer when I saw the coach teaching them to "take a dive." Not how to fall, but how to feign an injury.

This game is played by over 150 countries, and they all play it a little bit differently- same rules- just a different playing style. Unfortunately, there are some who like to bend the rules by diving. Well this is no longer bending the rules- it is now breaking them. A blatant dive will be met with a yellow card. So it is a pity that this coach made you think this was a soccer norm- I assure you it is not. Rod |
