I agree with prayer. Always pray for their salvation, for the Cross is foolishness to those who are paerishing. I can see how you would not want a heckler if you were doing a show in a church or where people paid for the tickets. However, if you are doing your magic act and preaching on the streets....pray for their salvation AND that you get a heckler. They do a great job drawing a crowd.

For the majority I feel like if you could have a one on one talk with the heckler that you could really get him thinking. For the most part, maybe not the case above, but I feel like hecklers aren't necessarily attacking the message we are trying to deliver but rather the method. Good clean family and childrens magicians tend to be less popular with the in crowd. It's not that "cool" if you will.
I searved as a missionary for our local church for 2 years and every time that I would encounter an "atheist" I would try to talk to them in as calm a fassion as possible and most the time they many valid points to make and more often than not we would end the coversation with a realization that he was lass atheist than he thought. Remember Christ and follow the more subtle promptings of the spirit. If you react poorly to his heckling his disdain for Christian, and magic for that matter may grow and that's not what we want at all. I'm sorry I don't have any experience in performance with hecklers and I couldn't be a bigger help. Good luck to you all and your efforts! |

Vlad's perspective is very helpful, posted earlier, seems to be an especially Christlike approach.

Zach, if you were being heckled because your technical skills were not very good, then just practice and rehearse more before getting out there.
If you were heckled because the person didn't like 'the gospel', then rejoice! Like others have said, hecklers are great because they will help draw a bigger crowd for you! Check out heckler handling on some of Ray Comfort's shows at http://www.wayofthemaster.com |
