BAND BY ALAN RORRISON
Description: This is a 20 minute long video download detailing a visual, impromptu penetration effect involving a folded card and an elastic band. Review: First, a full disclosure... Alan and I often chat online with each other and he graciously sent this to me to look over... despite this I can honestly assure you that this will not affect the circumstances of how I determine the product's worth and quality... I will be as honest and legitimate as possible. With BAND, you are supplied with a 20 minute video download that features a for-camera performance of the effect and has the full remainder of the download devoted to detailing the method. Alan performs the effect beautifully and watching him perform the effect just drives you to work on BAND until it just looks that good. That said, does this look good? It looks great, especially for a totally impromptu effect. Just grab a playing card and an elastic band and you're good to go. In the effect, a playing card is folded into quarters, with the last fold placed in the card on an angle so the spectator can clearly see that the elastic band is legitimately linked on at any point in the routine. Basically, the band instantly and visually penetrates the fold of the playing card, linking it straight on... and yes, it is legitimately on. You then remove the band in an even more visual manner, nice and slowly... this looks similar to the final phase of Timothy Wenk's pencil through bill effect Misled. Both phases are startling visuals and they looks great. The method to the first phase will have you kicking yourself with it's sheer simplicity... if you hadn't seen it performed before you saw it taught, you'd swear this phase would be transparent to the spectator. Trust me, it isn't... watch the performance first and you'll be fooled too. The second phase is more complex, but not by much, and in my experience it requires a knack... I'm still working on positioning and whatnot and Alan unfortunately does not cover the bare specifics of the positioning for this last phase, something that would have been beneficial. For me, it's been a lot of trial and error in making it work properly. But when you do get it to work properly, it looks quite convincing and makes for a great slow motion penetration. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, I will give Alan Rorrison's BAND a good 8/10. If you're looking for something small, quick, visual, and impromptu to add to your arsenal, this is an excellent option. And, depending on where you are, this can be TOTALLY impromptu in not requiring a playing card... any similarly sized and shaped card will work just as well, such as a business card. I'll have fun with this one and, provided it fits your style, you will do... whether it does fit your style or not is all in your hands. I definitely recommend this! Michael Kras
