Hello
I am writing a paper discuss the origins of this effect, and its various incarnations. I was hoping some one might be able to tell me about Yosi Notkowitz's version that was released in 1994(?). Any other insights you have into this wonderful effect would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Nick Wait |

Have you seen the video of Fred Kaps performing this?
It is on my web site. http://www.petebiro.com Click on VIDEO CLIPS and scroll to it. I created this routine for Kaps, and to my knowledge am the originator of the effect. The work on this started in 1979 and worked with Kaps on it in 1980. Some of the history and methods were published in Genii.

Just watched the video. Effect is Super. Fred kaps was the greatest!
Thanks for sharing Mr. Biro.
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

The version given by Paul Gertner in his book Steel and Silver is noteworthy because it won the FISM first prize. For good reason, the routine amazed the judges. However, the trick has some limitations as to where and how it can be presented. Some actions must be hidden behind the magician's table so consequently there are angle problems and set-up problems.

I’ve bought the ring on Glass stem from KOKUBUNJI STUDIO they are known for their multiplying bottles the best .The glass is beautiful etched crystal comes with one gimmick glass and one regular glass .it is very sensitive it can work great and at the same time it cannot work. I am somewhat disappointed because of the price I paid $1000 and I would hope for that amount of money it would work better .I see on their website it’s gone up to $1800 is it worth it sorry to say no but that’s my experience with the ring on glass stem.

Interesting. I remember Rick Johnson doing a small padlock on the wineglass. He would show it lock and then put on the wineglass under cover of a hanky. Can't remember the method but I can still remember he called it "Wedlock". And his line was "I can't do it anymore as I was out wedlock".

You can also access old Linking Ring magazines via the Ask Alexander website if you've got a membership to that service; IBM simply redirects you to the Ask Alexander website. If you already have an account with Ask Alexander you can link your IBM account and your Ask Alexander account. Hank Lee put it out with all the necessary props , but Rick Johnson's write-up of it in Linking Ring tells you how to obtain all the necessary props. There is some minimal DIY involved. It's not difficult to make it. (the Hank Lee manufactured version shows up from time to time on used magic auctions). Click here to view attached image. |

I remember seeing this effect also in a old Linking Ring.. I used to photocopy items I liked and got rid of the magazines so they didn't pile up.. Will see if I can find this.. As I am not sure who contributed it.. But I know I had made one up from it.
