Then, of course, you add a bit of social commentary by reversing the effect.

I would probably do some "Perverse Magic".
For example, if in an elevator I would use the squeaker on the wall and then look confused. Then I would pull a quarter from that spot, again looking confused. I would end by pushing the quarter back (showing it gone) and then shrug - and then smile. |

MAGIC ON A DATE
I recall years ago, seeing a cartoon of a sexy woman laying on a bed with a guy sitting on the bed shuffling a deck of cards. I never forgot that. But doing a quick effect at the right time on a date can go a long way. Here's an example: “W A T C H” EFFECT 1 “This is a nice restaurant,” she said to her date as she sat down on the chair the waiter was holding for her. “I think you’ll like it,” he said as he sat down opposite her. “Are you going to show me a trick? I hear you’re a good magician.” He looked around, picked up the napkin, showed the front and back and told her to “watch” as he draped the napkin over his left palm and then brought his right hand under the napkin to join the left. 2 He removed his left hand from under the napkin and adjusted the napkin now over only his right hand. He snapped his left hand over his covered right hand and again said, “Watch”. And there on his palm was a wristwatch! 3 “Hmmm – a watch” she said smiling. “I hope you have “time” to show me some more tricks later.” HOW The numbers below correspond with the numbers above: 1 A wrist watch with an expansion band is on the left hand. After the napkin covers the left hand the right hand goes under the napkin and the right thumb goes under the expansion band and pulls the watch off the left arm and it stays on the open right palm under the napkin. 2 Fixing the napkin with the left hand gives some “time misdirection”. Then the left hand gestures over the covered right hand and you say “watch” 3 See? Quick. And even if this doesn’t fool the audience it’s quick and it is amusing. And it MAY fool them. |

On the basis that one makes ones own luck then why not contrive to meet a potentially great client an elevator and set something up before you meet.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I'd drive up in my freshly washed 40th anniversary RX-8 and get out in my best suit, clean and perfectly pressed.
I'd also have perfectly polished shoes and be wearing my good watch. As a CTO, impressing people is part of my job and first impressions count more then most people want to admit. (You didn't say it had to be impressing them with your magic skills.)

Coin through leg, coin into pocket, a couple of quick vanishes and productions.
Why? I always have pocket change, I don't always have hankies and stuff.

Ah yes, then you DP want one quick killer effect.
You ALSO however want to be dressed clean, neat and professional, whatever that means for your act.

Btw.... my parents were friends with Mort Weisinger in NYC. Mort is probably best known for being the editor of Superman in its hey day but Mort was also a writer on his own, a big Kreskin fan, and wrote some of the first articles about Kreskin.
When Mort found out I was into magic he told me a number of Kreskin stories. The one I remember best was how Kreskin got his first booking on Johnny Carson. He walked into Carson's booking agent's office, slapped a card hard down on his desk and said, "Right now! Think of a card. First card you think of. What is it?" The guy said Ace of hearts. He flipped over the Ace of hearts and got the booking. (Curious about that I've tried it many times since. If you push someone and don't let them think too much about it, it works about 95% of the time.)
