Hey all,
Years ago, I used to do a manipulation act which called for frequent use of my tail pockets. As for attaching the edge of the pocket to my pant leg, I always just safety-pinned it in place (very simple, yet very effective). Does anyone here have a better solution? There are several ways, such as a simple loop and button, but after the manipulation act, I want to remove the jacket and not be left with anything visible on the back of my pant leg. Thanks! Phil |

You may consider a very small loop of fabric or ribbon on the pants and a "lobster claw" clasp on the pocket. I hope this helps.

The best is Velcro, or you could use a clips very small in size, like the ones used to temporarily close the sleeve.

A ladies dress hook in black, sewn on the pant leg, would be okay and not be noticed much. They call them hooks and eyes at the fabric store. They come very small. Ladies use them to hold the zipper flap of material closed, to conceal the zipper.

There's no need to attach your tails to your pants. If you have your tail pocket made the right way, it will always be opened up just a little bit. If you practice enough, you will hit it every time. I vanish two yo yo's, 1 metal van. cane, and 1 dove during my act. Of course, the dove is last.

I, also, do not attach my tail pockets to my pants. I find no problem with them not being attached.

I first thought of Velcro, and then small magnets for a silent release. However, if I were to do it, I think I'd go with snap fasteners (colored to match your pants and jacket).

Use a hook and eye. Very small and works very well.

Hey all,
Thanks for the great advice- here's what I ended up going with. What I wanted was something that was rock solid and would not let go, yet could be released quickly and would leave no visible "anything" on my pantleg. That rules out snaps (not 100% secure), as well as velcro (visible afterwards) and I wasn't sure about the magnet because it would need to be really strong and I don't want to stick to an illusion later in the show. So, I tried the hook and eye using the smallest black ones I could find. The tiny black eye part is virtually invisible on my pants. However... just barely moving was all it took for these things to come undone and it happened every time. So- I got two small alligator clips and sewed one to each tail pocket (where the hooks had just been). I simply allow the clip to bite the small eye that's sewn to my pants and viola! It WILL NOT come loose but is easy and quick to remove. Hopefully someone else can use this! Thanks again everyone! Phil |
