How long did it take you to perfectly perform the classic pass invisibly? And the riffle pass? I've been training for about three weeks now and it's slow, clumsy and noisy. Also, what is the hardest sleight/flourish you have ever seen?

You might want to let it rest for a while...Practice a little and I bet it will come to you...

Classic pass, about two thousand times. As for the riffle pass, it's my belief that everybody's can always get better. But for me, it took a bit longer than the classic pass.

I've been working on the pass for about two years now. As financedragon said, there is always room for improvement. My riffle pass is pretty much invisible but I still need some missdirection for the classic pass.
I guess it just depends on how often you practice and how much effort you put into it. |

I've been working on the pass for four years. I thought I had it down pretty good until I finally got to see how it is supposed to look. Now its back to the drawing board! Make sure you get a visual aid (fellow magician or video) to see just how good a pass can look so you don't make the same mistake I did.

Classic Pass- 4 months
Riffle Pass- 6 months Herrman Pass- 2 weeks- This is the one I use in performances Let it flow. Close your eyes and picture in your mind what your hands are doing during a perfect pass. Then try doing it a couple hundred times without looking at your hands. Then look in a mirror and see what it looks like. Try learning it by feel, not by sight. Practice it anywhere you can. Concentrate on relaxing while executing the move rather than creating tension because of frustration created by not having perfected the sleight in a "reasonable" amount of time. Look at any great card handler like Reed McClintock or Larry Davidson and you will see relaxed hands when they execute a sleight. I know this post doesn't exactly answer your question but it may help you cut down learning time on many sleights. By the way, when you ask "How long did it take you to perfectly perform the classic pass invisibly ? And the riffle pass?", Do you mean invisibly to laymen or invisibly to magicians? Try not to lose sight of who you're performing for. Hopefully every sleight we perform is invisible to laymen. Top of the day, Michaels

Thanks everyone. I meant to the laymen, but if it can be invisible to Magiccians, even better !

A good friend of mine told me when practicing passes you should use two decks at the same time, this way it's harder(it feels bigger, much bigger)...and when you go back to using one deck it feels smaller and makes it easier...hope this helps

Thanks Jesse ... that rememinded me of Dragon Ball, when they trained with more gravity, and then on normal gravity they were super fast

That's funny, I've been into card magic for over thirty years and I still find ways to improve on my pass. It's like you never stop learning about it or what it is supposed to look like or feel like.
The misdirection or movement concerning a pass is important. It comes down to, "even if the spectator's did not see the pass, if they even suspect something has occurred, the MAGIC of the effect is lost"!

The two deck idea sounds great.

Misdirection beats speed and agility any time!
"Magic" is merely an illusion, but "Perception" is reality!
