I recently had the pleasure of receiving an advance copy of Rus Andrews new eBook Paranoid 3, those of you who are aware of his previous work will know that he specialises in bold effects and the thrill of doing something risky is the reason why he creates and performs the tricks he does, that does not mean the tricks aren’t well created and routined it just means that after reading this eBook you will find yourself inspired to get out there, stop doing the tricks you’ve been performing perfectly for 5 years and try something new and bold to make you PARANOID!

The initial look of the ebook is dark and slightly creepy in keeping with the first two books in the paranoid series, the book looks professionally done and the descriptions are concise and clear with photos to help where necessary.
The thing that I love about this ebook is that as far as I am aware all the tricks are original but every trick only uses a standard deck of 52 cards, no gimmicks to make or buy.

PIP MY RIDE – A clean and visual trick, plays very strongly – it brilliantly makes use of what is usually used as a visual colour change but as a quick card switch that to the spectator’s mind never happens, the reveal is slow, visual and powerful.

BREATHE FOR THOUGHT – The simplest trick to perform in the ebook by far but that does not mean it doesn’t play strong – in the right situation this effect kills!

CONTAC – Beautifully routined torn corner trick, it is routined very sneakily such that spectator is thoroughly unimpressed one second and tearing their hair out with confusion and denial the next.

BOXCHANGE – One of the few tricks that requires set-up but hardly any at all and it’s worth it to do this killer slow motion change that finishes clean.

JITTERBOX – Terrific application of the above change.

ADMISSION – I HATE THIS EFFECT – well I don’t hate it I just hate that I can’t do it! It’s absolutely brilliant, a really beautiful card switch but if you can’t back palm well (and I can’t) then you’ll struggle but the back palm is worth learning well just for this switch!

DUMP – One of my favourite new card switches, very commercial, very usable – will fall into most working magicians working routines straight away.

VISUAL GLITCH – Not going to fool too many magicians but it is going to fry laypeople, kind of like a visual ambitious card routine with sandwich! Will be going into my repertoire with just the slightest tweak which is just personal preference.

COLLARED – A real selection of bold magic wouldn’t be complete without a signature bold effect, I can tell you that although it takes a nice big pair of balls it is 100% worth the risk – a stunning effect!

Rus should be congratulated on coming up with yet another selection of brilliantly created, streamlined effects with no unnecessary handling and every effects packs an excellent punch and as I mentioned before no gaff cards involved!

I also had the oppurtunity to receive a Pre - Release copy of Paranoid 3, and there is some GREAT material, that is simple but hard hitting. All of them are workers, things that you WILL perform, and the Ebook is nicely presented.
Collared is a great effect!
Highly Recommended!

Best wishes,

Kyle

I just had the chance to read this E book and certainly agree with the above very positive reviews. I've been doing card magic for almost 50 years and know good commercial effects when I read them. That's exactly what these are. They are workers that don't require knuckle busting sleeight of hand but pack a very powerful punch through subtlety and boldness. Noone would ever say that these are just another bunch of boring card tricks. With a deck of 52 cards and little else you have some very high impact card magic.

I am intrigued by this e-book. Someone had mentioned "bold". I LIKE bold Smile So, I eagerly await more reviews on this. From what I have read thus far, it does sound promising. There are never enough workers from which to choose.

Namaste,
Vlad

I also received Paranoid 3 and as with the other products from Rus I'm getting creative with the content.
You are not buying just an effect,Rus is giving you a method/technique or principe that will allow you to meld it in a new effect or already existing effects.
And bold ? mwah It's not sneaky and sneaky things will trigger people to watch for something!
Rus, Great work ! You make me think....Smile

A very good collection of tricks. Fortunately, I don't think any of the effects are technically difficult. However, it does require good showmanship. For example, 'Breathe For Thought' is a great trick, and the kind of trick that'll look great on TV . The secret is simple, but the entire thing requires good showmanship. Pip my ride is amazing as well. Collared is excellent but I'm not sure I can pull it off.

Sleights and shuffles are not explained as there are tonnes of books where these are explained. However, 3 card switches created by Rus is explained with photos. They are not very difficult to perform and you will use them in the effects. From me its a 4/5

Thanks for your comments, all my work is quite bold, I enjoy the buzz of pushing the bounderies And that subtle risk of getting caught, like when you performed your very first effect.

bold magic is whats on order from me.

once again thankyou for your comments

This is exactly the kind of thinking that I have come to expect from Russels devious mind. If you like simple, direct, bold effects that pack a punch then this is seriously worth your consideration. Personally I'm glad that this is Russels last e-book for a while... it'll give me chance to catch up!

This is really nice stuff, many thanks Rus! Wondered when we would see it for sale. Really workable routines and ideas, lots of useable stuff. Seems to me like a real way of thinking, stuff that can actually be done and will actually work. No pretentious nonsense, Rus knows what he is talking about!

Great!

Can anyone describe what actually happens in these effects -- beyond "bold", "stunning", "this effect kills", etc.? What do spectators actually see?
