Hi all! The Ghost of Leonard Kobal here....
I'm assuming that many here actually do magic for people unlike a band of magicians (snarkle) who I shan't name that haunt a section of the Café where one might find people with names like Unkle Snotty or Prof. Snuffaho from Hogsworth. Forget them. We are bizarrist! Spookites! We are 'magicians with tales to tale' dang it. We are the poets whilst others are trying to figure out how to drop a silk in a manner that it makes a child laugh 2.7 times per minute and still get across that drugs are bad and that they should read. You get the point, wink wink. Here is my ponderance. There are different styles of presenting yourself and your magic. My lastest performance piece is done in the first person, meaning (for you visual learners) that I am telling of an event that happened to myself. One can also tell a story in the third person or from the perspective a witness to an event they participated in as well. Which method do you all prefer? All are cool. Oh, the last is you don't really think about it you just walk up and frown while performing, I guess these days that is also a style. So which do you like to do? This also effects how your magic is incorporated into the story and presented. I actually think it is easier if doing it from the participating witness angle but the magic has to come from some where. In my new show it comes from a box left by a ghost when his domain was disturbed. Something has to trigger it. Do you like curses, family sourced (you are the seventh son of the seventh son, the grandson of a gypsy who was told her powers would skip a generation and now you found out you have them but don't fully understand them), did you get hit in the head and wake up with these abilities? Or do you just walk up and do a trick while frowning? I'm interested to see how you go about your presentations. I am absolutely NOT asking how I should do it, I've confidence in myself as a performer, but I view this as an opportunity to share and maybe provide a spark to ourselves or others. Or realize we can walk up and do a trick while frowning. What say ye? GoLK |

Curses: I removed a curse earlier this week, and did a house blessing/exorcism (the house, not a person, those are rare for me).
As for entertainment, the Bard said it in AYLI, Act 2, Scene 7, and Anton LaVey paraphrased it as, “All religion is theater” (stolen, of course, like most everything he put forward), but I say “everything is theater” (going back to the Bard). Each ceremony and or performance can be broken down into 3 parts, the Introduction/Warm-up, the Ritual/Performance, and the Closing/Wrap-up. “Three” is a powerful number. Additionally, each phase can also be broken down into three parts: The Introduction/Warm-up contains the Identification of purpose (why you are all there), Identification of Expectations (what may be accomplished, and what will not, building realistic expectations), and Preparation (involving everyone and making them feel part of what is happening, building a group dynamic and energy). His phase builds the framework for what is to come and builds interest and excitement. The Ritual/Performance and the Closing/Wrap-up phases can also be broken up this way, but I won’t do it here. If you look at live entertainment, you will find most all successful performances follow this pattern. Parts may be moved around within portion, you may have the Warm-up done prior to the introduction, and the Expectations may have been established by the venue (If you are going to see a music concert, you don’t have to be told it will be music…). The “rule of three’s” applies to most everything that conveys a message or story, they may call the parts by different names, but they all share a similar structure. Tony |

Thanks for contributing Tony! I was starting to wonder if this was a photo forum, lots of posing. I'm a firm believer in the rule of threes.

Greetings GoLK, while waiting for the Bilderbergers to steal my last breathe I will add my 69 cents.( inflation adjusted 2 cents) I am into the discovery of artifacts and the" they made me do it" realm just now. Frown or no frown! Just telling the story and the weirdness happens. Tea ladies seem to like me ok, although some of the oldies here seem to not have found the love yet. Acquired taste maybe? They will resurface soon, again, they always do. Maybe they will have an opinion you can use?

I have a 25 year old bottle of Macallam. I know it's a little bit big for a Witch Bottle but I may try it anyway. If it works I'll post a review.

I don't have a ton of experience, but usually I'm demonstrating what I'm doing. For example, if I'm doing a curse ritual (I use one from "One" of Pentalogy) I may have a story about how I learned it, or an experience that I've had with it, but while the magic itself is happening I am actually doing a curse ritual, not just talking about it.
This is also how I'm planning my show; it's an autobiographical account of my characters experiences with the arcane and occult, with demonstrations of what I've learned to do, or (in a couple of instances) magic happening of it's own accord around the room stemming from the magical atmosphere we have created.

I forgot, I was going to make a side-note with the curse that some might like.
I was originally concerned that people would not want to name a person to actually curse. This has been shown to be a legitimate concern, because the curse makes people pretty uncomfortable and they wonder if it was real; and I always strongly imply that it is, so I didn't want them to have to deal with guilt as well. So I simply decided that it would be me cursing someone and an audience member is assisting me, that keeps it pretty "heavy," but puts any karmic guilt on me not them. It also let's me say that they may hear about a certain public figuring having this particular type of accident in the next 3 days, weeks or months... Sorry. this is only somewhat related to the thread, but since we were already talking about curses.

The thread is about creative processes and the art, it goes where it goes.
