I have been driving myself crazy going back and forth over whether to buy the mirage coin set by craig petty or not. The one trick the demo shows is the international matrix, beautiful to watch. Although this is something that I am currently able to accomplish with my CSB set. So as you can tell I am on the fence about it. If anyone that has this can chime in and weigh their opinions about it compared to a CSB set that would be helpful. I know its different gaffs (magic.about explains the gaffs included) but Im looking more for info on the routines and such. Should I just upgrade my CSB set to a nicer quality one with walking liberty's or get the mirage coin set? And why does the demo say 4 gimmicks when it appears you only get 3? You can PM me that last one if ya like, Anyway hoping to hear from actual owners to help me make my decision! Thanks!

My guess is when they say the set comes with 4 gaffs, they're really referring to the four items provided - the fourth being the ungaffed chinese coin. My (used) set didn't come with the three Kennedy halves mentioned, but not a problem for me as I have plenty.
As for the routines on the DVD, I like them... as you said... beautiful to watch, but they're not automatic in execution. Probably a bit too much if you're just starting with coin sleights, but if you've got the basics down (he uses the CP a lot), there's not a lot of tortuous finger flinging, and the sleight section of the DVD explains things fairly well. I think the decision to go for this set vs a nicer CSB set is more about whether you want to simply add some "style" to your existing repertoire, or if you want to increase your options by adding new gaffs and routines to it. |

I will quickly chime in but don't have a CSB so not sure my input will be helpful at all. You get a 3 gaffs in the set, a chinese coin, and extra Kennedy 1/2s. The work is accomplished primarily with the F*****R and the S#L. The S#L that I received is slippery and hard to CP. But all in all the routines are a mind blower and within the grasp of the average coin guy. I'm a pretty rank amature and I can perform most of the routines. I was a bit disappointed as the signature routine on the DVD (don't recall the name)isn't taught. They thought it cute to pretend they were running out of time and so they fast forward through the "instructions" using high speed photography so you're really not taught the routine. All in all I love the set and the routines taught. However, I bought my set used and so I'd maybe think differently if I was looking to pay full price.

Hi guys, I think the set is good (but I might be considered biased).
Peneskin is my favourite routine on the dvd as it is a great routine for walk around with no angle problems and an instant reset. Regarding the coin to box, yes I do explain it very fast but there is an Easter egg on the DVD menu where you can access a proper explanation of the effect. Just go to the explanations menu and keep pushing right. Some invisible text will appear and when you click on it you get the proper explanation. Hope that helps and if you have more questions just let me know. Thanks again Craig |

Why make people work to find this stuff. Really, what's the point? Because you can?
Just put the material out in the open where everyone can find it and be done with it.

I saw it as extra entertainment value to watching the disc / an example of Craig's humor. Yes, if you simply "play all", you see only the bum's rush explanation, but the full version isn't really all that "hidden". From the main menu, you click "Routines" -- like anyone looking might do. The menu listed shows: Silver Switch Hide & Seek Coins International Reverse Matrix Impossible Coins Across Along the bottom it clearly says "MORE" and "MAIN MENU". Click MORE and you get: Wild Hanging Coins Penaskins Mirage Box Credits Again, along the bottom it clearly says "MORE" and "MAIN MENU" Click MORE (who wouldn't?) and the bouncing "Easter Egg" appears, with options of "OPEN" and "MAIN MENU". Click OPEN, and the explanation for the box routine plays. No clicking on any "secret" areas... just "MORE", "MORE", then an obvious easter egg "announcement", and an obvious click on "OPEN" P.S. If you play the DVD on a computer with something like VLC media player, you can just go straight to the third title on the disk and play the explanation directly. |

While your at it, can you just put the explanations here? Sometime it is fun to find things like that. I don't have the DVD, but I see no issue with it.

Craig,
Thanks for the tip on finding the Easter Egg. Not really a fan of hidden stuff on DVDs personally either but...I'm getting cranky in my old age. My F*&%%3R parts came unattached from the doodad that holds it all together. I looked on the menu for instructions on how to fix that but didn't see anything. Is there an Easter Egg for that too? If not, I'd suggest maybe adding that on your future DVDs. Anyway, I love the routines and Peneskin is killer. Your extremely detailed instruction in the sleights section of the DVD is fantastic. I commend you for spending so much time in that area as most DVDs don't bother. Again, great work. KJ |

I'd also like to chime in that the Mirage set from Craig is very good and the range of effects that Craig has on the DVD is second to none. I have worked through most of the routines in it and they are all very effective. My fav one has to be the 'Immposible Coins Across' and I find that having a copper coin go over first followed by the silver coins just sets everything up so much better. I also have to mention that the coin box routine is also excellent, something else that I have to work on.
There is a wealth of moves and handling's shown here that we can all use in other routines. I wouldn't hesitate to get it. I just wish that they did it in dollar size as well. John
