Looking for help. Does anyone here have any photographs of the Houdini Historical Museum, that you could email me. Also, does anyone here know or have a photograph of the Swansea strait jacket that was on show there.
Thanks Harry |

The one in Scranton, or the collection in Appleton?
Scranton is the child of Dorothy Dietrich and Dick Brooks, both of whom contribute here, and are excellent people. It's a beautiful little venue, and well put-together. I believe they just got a grant to re-do the front of the building. Yay!

The one in Appleton WI, is the one I'm after. I've seen pics and been on the Scranton site, looks a great place to visit.
Thanks Harry |

Appleton is the Outgamie Museum. I'm unable to access their website at the moment.

Slap me with a wet fish and call me mary! I meant the Houdini Magic Hall of Fame in Niagara Falls, the one that burn down. I have a few photo's of the place already but would like to see more, especially the SJ.
Thanks Mary... I mean Harry |

Harry,(sorry Mary!) in my collection I have a guide to the Niagara museum. I'll check it out at the weekend to see if it mentions the Swansea jacket

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if I can track down a copy of the auction catalog.
Mick, I like when you call me Mary, it reminds me of that night together, rubber gloves, feather duster and a pair of Mirror cuffs, lol I've checked in the Houdini Magical Hall of Fame book that I have, it does mention an upside down strait jacket but no mention of the Swansea jacket. Also whilst reading through the book it mentioned Harry's steel box escape. It mentions that Houdini only used the box twice and states that it was used in the film The Great Houdini. I wonder if it means the original steel box was used or the film featured that escape? Ran across this site, has several shots of the museum :- http://www.intervalmagic.com/houdinimuse......dex.html Harry |

Hi Harry, I am sending you two scans from the Butterfield's auction cat.
I cannot see if Swansea is mantioned and there are no photos in it of the layout of the hall of fame before it closed. Ian

In the Silverman Houdini bio, Sid Radner claimed that the Swansea jacket was destroyed in the fire at the hall.

Thanks for your email Ian, very much appreciated.
I've just been looking though some books and Thorndyke is correct, the Swansea SJ was destroyed in the fire. So were now now looking for pre fire photo's/ info. Harry |

Houdini never used that steel box that was in the museum. The Paramount prop department made that box.
