Thought I would share something that I am looking forward to
and is sure to interest those who have an interest in unique, novel, intelligent and fun presentations and tools for performance/entertainment. I have seen some of what he is offering and I will be donating material to this project. (Another reason for this post) In fact I will predict that this will be one of the highlights of the year. A creation from Dr Spektor, a well respected member of the Café, and the real world. This is a bit of information about what he has been working on. After you read it you will understan my interest. ------------------------------------------------ Opening Halloween if all goes well: THE CARCOSA COLLECTION Here in the galleries of the Carcosa Collection… you enter the realm of dark imagination. Enter of your own free will… and take in the nightmarish beauty of the displays… just as they may take you in. Tread carefully and stay to the dimly lit paths. The Carcosa Collection is primarily based on the work of Robert W. Chambers’ tales in his book, The King in Yellow. In addition, works of dark fiction from many writers and artists may inspire some of the items you may see on display. It should be noted that just because Chambers wrote it as apparent fiction, doesn’t mean it isn’t real. In fact, the entire canon regarding the King in Yellow involves concepts of metafiction, fantasy crossing over to reality, and the breakdown of telling what is true from false - in ways that predated Lovecraft, Borges, and Eco. In fact, it was the play described by Chambers, “The King in Yellow”, that was one of the direct inspirations for the creation of the Necronomicon by Lovecraft (unless of course, you do believe that is real too). So, note that the Carcosa Collection is dedicated to bringing works of fiction into physical reality for use in the mystery arts. It is for promoting the art as an art, as much as trying to bring mystery back to the field of magic, mentalism and related areas. In addition, it is to demonstrate that there are ways to help the artists in multiple fields to collaborate, share and do charitable works together… without having to lie and steal from others as some in the magical business have. Of course, this entire enterprise may be a fiction. Just as the stories suggest about metafiction… perhaps this is all an elaborate hoax to have people believe the relics and artifacts offered within this collection are real. Perhaps they are as only real as the King in Yellow, Necronomicon, the Book of the Nine Gates, the Shining Trapezohedron, Rascar Capac, Hob’s Lane Martians, living Zuni fetish warriors, and so on. However, things do not really need to be real to have immense power and effects in the so called real world. One just has to read the works of P. K. Dick and see we are already in the realm of virtual and unreal worlds blending into our own. ----------------------------------- I truly think this will be great. Best Wishes, Jim
