I just watched "Dean Men Don't Wear Plaid" for the umpteenth time and it still rates as not only one of my favorite Steve Martin movies, but as pure genius, and one of my all time "gotta watch when its on" movies. And just to keep above board there is a little bit with Steve Martin doing a coin roll.

Steve Martin? - 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' - Michael Caine and Steve Martin - an absolute masterpiece! Martin, posing as Caine's retarded brother 'Ruprecht' - a magical moment in movie history! Also the disabled veteran routine! A bit like the "Puttin' on the Ritz" routine in 'Young Frankenstein' or Basil Fawlty when the German guests arrive at 'Fawlty Towers'! (TV series).

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has been licensed to a Broadway producer to be made into a musical. I've always said it would make a great musical, since I first saw the movie.
Then again, other movies that have recently been licensed for musicals: Tootsie, Catch Me If You Can, and (this one is difficult to say) Legally Blonde (tasteless producers, must be). |

I second AceParties...'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' is a classic. My wife has worn down the tape from watching it so many times!
Destined to go into my hall of fame: Ruprecht sitting at dinner, 'May I go to the bathroom?" Watch it and you'll understand |

I love Steve Martins´ movies. Maybe my favourite is "Bowfinger". The story is sooo original.

Let's not forget "Roxanne" (my favorite) and "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles." And of course, the immmortal "The Jerk" ("He hates these cans!")

I think some of my friends think I've got pompous taste in films (foreign language stuff and classics etc.)
However, I can proudly say that the film I've watched more than any other by a considerable amount is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". It's not my favourite film (but it's up near the top) - it just suits my mood more often than not. "THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!" |

So did anyone but me like "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid"?
I agree that all the above mentioned movies are great....and I love his writing. I will watch any of his movies that come on the tube and will never tire of seeing the "pillow" scene in Trains, Planes and Automobiles. And I miss John Candy ... but that is for another thread.

I am fond of all of them, including "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid," plus, "The Man with Two Brains," which has a lot of great lines in it..."Just give me a sign, any kind of sign..." or, "You're playing God!"..."SOMEBODY has to!" "Somebody get that cat out of here!"
Probably my overall favorite has to be "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." "Why does he have a cork on his fork?" - followed by, P,T & A... and "The Jerk." Thanks for reminding me of these... tr |

I thought that Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid was great but i felt that the plot was just an excused for a series of scenes containing famous actors.
I could have been a bit more seamless. But it was much better the Kung Pow. Anyone seen Martin's Oscar winning short film? Very Funny. |

Never heard of "Very funny".
But in looking for it I was reminded of "MY Blue Heaven"....another one of his gems that kept me laughing and deserves a mention.

Don't forget "The Lonely Guy", I just saw it today and really enjoyed it. I loved the bridge in the fog, where guys were always dropping off like flies in the background.
For those fans of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", my wife and I have always been able to make each other laugh by just yelling out of the blue "Oklahoma, Oklahoma!" -Reg {*}
