If anyone has answers or questions about restaurant magic then ask away everything helps when you first start table hopping!

Maybe tell us a bit about yourself and your background working restaurants? We've got some very successful restaurant workers on this forum so you're in good company!

I thought that was the whole point of the site in the first place right?

LOL...you'd think so, but the treatment some people get on here would lead you to another conclusion...

They run the gamut from people who have obviously never worked restaurants who want to know the best tricks for working in a pizza parlor wanting to know the best trick for $15.00 to people who have worked restaurants for years offering suggestions based upon their experience. You joined yesterday, and so far have 0 posts. That's hard to do when we can see that you have 1 post. Have you actually read any of the material here? Do you know which of us have actually worked in a restaurant for a living? What are your qualifications? How do we know what to ask you? Take a look at some of the people here such as Christopher Lyle, who is an extremely successful restaurant magician, or Danny Doyle, who works a lot in venues outside the US. You will have different opinions from each of them, yet there are commonalilties in their posts.

I appreciate that there are many knowledgeable magicians on this site, but how do we know juggler628 is not one of them? Some of the comments could scare him/her off before they get going. Seems like a nice offer myself.
Juggler628; welcome. You may want to give an overview of your experience etc....personally I'd use my own name as well. Advice is a lot better received if you know who it's coming from. |

Whimper, whine, sniff.
Jeez. Reread his post. Look at his profile. He comes in offering advice without any mention of what he has done. All I know about him so far is that he should have studied harder in English class. Back when I was the moderator of Mind and Magic for Ted Lesley, we used to get guys like this who would drop in and say, "If you have any questions about mentalism, ask away." But they had no qualifications. All I am asking is for him to state his qualifications. 1) Where has he worked? 2) What has he done? 3) Why does he think he is qualified to answer questions about this? He doesn't even say where he is from.

Seems like you've seen this sort of thing before, which I personally haven't.. What an odd thing for someone to do in their spare time.....you'd think there would be better ways for someone to spend their time....Practising perhaps.

I have no problem with people offering advice; that's what this site is for.
However, this is like putting a bag over your head, walking into the Oscars and going, "Hey, if anybody has questions about making movies, just let me know!" It could be Spielberg under that bag, but take the thing off and let us know who you are. I don't mean to be harsh, but there's a difference between someone like Christopher Lyle, who has a link to his site, obviously knows what he's doing, and has been posting here for quite some time, and someone with no posts, outside links, avatar, nothing. It just comes across a little odd is all. Hopefully he'll share his experience with us!

Anyone who can make a post vanish like that and us still see it is a man to be listened to about magic.
Read his first post. This is a guy/gal (Who knows really from that post?) that seems to have relatively poor communication skills in the first place. Nothing about what was acomplished, nothing about what philisophy and why, just throw out questions and the all knowing will help. As Bill points out the only thing we know is he skipped English class with me! Here is the thing. I have worked restaurants for a long time. Better than 20 years. I worked at Schuliens, had a place in Key Largo, and work for 5 star all inclusive resorts now. BUT I do not know the first thing about working family style venues like Applebees. I have no idea how I would do it, I have no idea how to land it or for that matter I have never worked a corporate chain so I have no idea about that. I also have not booked a ton of outside work FROM restaurant work. I have always had far more than enough from them as a whole. My point is that guys like Christopher Lyle and myself have been in this for a long time with our nose right in it. Christopher has gaps in his knowledge as well. Someone like Bill Palmer who has been at this for quite a bit longer even has things he may not have even done and certainly not done regularly. This is the point I believe Bill is making. Even "restaurant magic" is a vast field that almost nobody is complete in their knowledge. It would help if the original poster would narrow down his expertese for us is all.

I feel just the opposite, I believe red to blue is more visual.

Well, you'll have to admit, he's been a plethora of information. Not one wrong bit of advice so far. But, it does look like the cat got his tongue right now.
