Jeff, you need to explain the selection procedure more clearly.

Michael it's simply what are the odds of me guessing the correct object picked by a spectator out of a group of 5 objects? Also me picking the correct object selected from a group of 6 object?

There are 5 ways to select 1 object from a group of 5 - 5C1 (read "five choose one") - so the probablilty of guessing correctly - assuming all choices are equally likely - is 1/5 = 20%, and the odds against guessing correctly are 4:1.
There are 15 ways to select 2 objects from 6 - 6C2 - so the probability of guessing correctly - assuming all choices are equally likely - is 1/15 = 6.67%, and the odds against guessing correctly are 14:1. |

There is a useful combinations and permutations calculator at
http://www.mathsisfun.com/combinatorics/......tor.html This includes the possibility of taking order into account and allowing repetitions. Mike |
