I want to make my own Dead of Night Deck with bicycle cards. Can somebody tell me what is the best method to erase the index off of a bicycle card? Thanks.

Gadfly3d,
I tried very fine steel wool and it takes the texture/air cushion finish off. I tried nail polish remover and that takes off the whole layer. Any help or suggestions if much appreciated.

I too have had some success with just a normal pencil eraser.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Thanks guys. I have used a pencil eraser and that seems like it removes less of the layer than steel wool. I will have to get an ink eraser and give that a try.

For me, the best looking results have come from 100% acetone to remove the index. Yes it will completely remove the finish. To reapply the finish to the index I use a Krylon high-gloss spray. Tape down the rest of the card so only the exposed bit of card is getting the spray applied. It may take a couple of applications until you get it very near to the finish on the rest of the card. The best way to check is to compare the amount of glare in direct sunlight. At that point it becomes pretty clear when you need to apply a little more and when it looks just as reflective as the rest of the card.
Under normal viewing conditions it isn't detectable. This is also a nice way to print a different index on the corner since there is no finish to get in the way of the printer.
