Cody McKenzie, a dude from my favorite local kickboxing gym, just won his fight at the Ultimate Fighter
GSP v Koscheck Finale with an awesome guillotine choke.

The guy has some mutant power with that guillotene choke hold though! Holy cow. I also liked that Brookins guy that won it. What a humble kid. Nice to see someone like that get through with that sort of personality. Nice to see someone like that as opposed to Josh, (who will get his head handed to him in 6 days.) always just running the mouth. Anyhow congrats he represented himself quite well. (Michael Johnson is from 1/2 hour away right up the road. Too bad he lost, but I thought Brookins was better.)

I was happy about Brookins too. I thought he was toast after that first round but he turned it around!
I knew about Cody being on the show a while back because his Muay Thai coach's wife told me about him. They actually had two students audition but only Cody made it. He trains at TKO. I did my free week there a year ago and been wanting to sign up since, just haven't had the money. If I ever get the money then I hope he's still there to teach me that choke!

I was glad to see Brookins win it. And I too, thought he was DONE after the first round. But he finally got it to the ground and that's when things turned around for him.
The thing I just can't understand is - WHY do people keep presenting their neck to Cody?? I understand that he has the move DOWN tight - but you study your opponent before a fight. If he is an excellent striker, you might aim to take it to the ground. If he likes the ground game, you work on stuffing takedown attempts, and focus on getting back to your feet quickly. Those are GENERAL observations about an opponents' GENERAL fighting style. Now comes Cody - who has one VERY SPECIFIC move, the guillotine - and you can't stop it? I am not taking anything away from Cody - he does the move and does it well. And even when he doesn't get it locked on perfectly (as in this last fight in the finale) he STILL manages to get the tap. But it just blows my mind how his opponents aren't training well enough to stay away from the one move Cody has used repeatedly for his wins.

Bruce Lee once said something to the effect that if someone is bound and determined to bite your nose off they will find a way to do it. They could take the worse beating of their life, but that nose is coming off.
Forrest Griffin is still my favorite fighter.
