Anyone work with cats? I have two wonderful siamese, one of whom loves being in small bags, boxes, etc. (She even crawls up under my sweatshirt when I'm sitting down.) Any thoughts on how to get her into the act?

I used kittens in my show in the past. I did the transfer effect. I used the Duck Bucket and a Mirror Box. Shortly I had to stop using them in my show because they outgrew the props. If I could find a cat that would stay small, I would use one again.

I have a house cat size appearance cage, my cat loved to perform the trick, I love using it but only use for bigger shows as the cage & stand are awkward to transport

When I was in Juniro Highschool I had this wonderfully calm and pliable siamese.
I practiced a square circle routine with her as the final production (it was a big SC I made myself) but I never actually performed it. If your cat is happy to be boxed up and stay quiet when there is noise around her, I don't see why you cant use her in an act. The kids would love it. (I always thought a miniature cage production ala the lady and the tiger would be perfect for a cat. Did you make your cage yourself or is it commercial?)) My square circle routine btw was attempting to pull a rabbit out of the thing. I d pull out all sorts of junk and then end with the cat, hold her up, look her in the eye, and say "Now, what did you do with the rabbit?" Quote:

The flip side is that they often don't survive infancy, or have more health problems later on. (a runt cat is a lot like a premie human.) However, sometimes they can turn out just fine. My wife had a runt that lived a perfectly normal cat life span with no more then the usual cat ailments. Just be aware that this isn't guaranteed...

I used an older kitten once. I had it on a table with a silk scarf over it. Then I built a Newspaper Tear-Apart Vanish over the hump, not using paper on the bottom panel. It worked like a sucker vanish. Doves went into the box, which was taken apart and the paper panels busted out. The visible hump was then revealed to be the cat. I did this on a TV segment and it worked very well.

I have used a mini blammo box some years ago to turn a pair of doves into a cat. It was cued with a 'roar' sound effect as if it was a tiger. Sometimes the cat would meow at the same time as the sound went off, everyone enjoyed it a lot! Some people even got scared thinking the cat was actually roaring, haha!
Cats won't stay quiet within too tight compartments for long, though. Have an assistant set it up for ya backstage just before the prop is handed to you. And spray up some liquid catnip (Petshops carry it) inside the prop to make sure the kitty's stay is a little more enjoyable. Catnip smells pretty good and is also absolutely harmless to any animal, so no need to worry about funny smelling props. |
