Hi guys...long story short I have my first restaurant Table hopping tomorrow at a Friendly's as a fundraiser for a local theatre. I have some set tricks (including the Nice List business card trick from the Nov. Linking ring). I'm not in a pinch to come up with anything, but I want to know in your opinions what of the standards for close up (mostly cards) really play well in a restaurant setting? Thanks!

Multiple Selection Routines
Card under box/glass Card to pocket/51 to pocket Ambitious Card to Kennedy Box or end with Paperclipped Sankey's Back in Time Ultimate 3 Card Monte Jack in the Box The Visitor 10 Card Poker Deal - Aldo's version is my favorite - this has multiple phases and can end at any time which is why it's so great for restaurants Invisible Deck Cardtoon Kolossal Killer Side Swiped Kickback by Ryan Swiggart There are tons more, but these are some of my favorites over the years. I only use 2-3 card tricks tops when table hopping. My main set is Sponge Bunnies, Ambitious Card to Kennedy Box, and the Chop Cup. I'll then throw in extras if I have time. |

I also suggest the Three Shell Game. It's incredible and IMMEDIATELY pulls everyone in because everybody knows exactly what it is and what their job is in the game.

Chop Cup
I didn't use a cup for a LONG time or bothered learning a routine, but when I finally dived in I'm never going to come back out again. |

I gave a lot of card tricks because you specifically asked for cards. I will reiterate what I said previously, I only do one or two card tricks per table. Sometimes, I don't even do a single card trick eventhough I love cards!

Thanks guys. on the subject of Chop cup: I have a chop cup w/cups and balls. Would this work? What types of things I.E. Sleights, patter, ect. make a good single-cup routine? So that it doesn't sound like a fishing expedition for your routine (because it's not and I hate to come across that way.) the chop-only routine I do is a finale to my CaB routine, but other than that I know nothing beyond for a chop cup. Thanks a million!!!

The chop cup is the greatest magic invention ever in my opinion. Go on YouTube and look up Don Alan doing the chop cup. He was the guy who made it popular. It'll give you a good starting point.

I only do one sleight: a roll fake transfer. That's the only sleight.
I learned mine from Super Charged Classics 1 with Mark James. Brilliant. Many have said that that DVD will make you want to do chop cup if you don't already, and it says it on the ad copy, and what do ya know it worked lol! |

Stick to the routines that you know like the back of your hand. Anything else will be discouraging.

Agree with Alan... quick, visual opener then a simple effect you know very well, finally your hammer finale. Leave them wanting more... tell them to let the server know if you should come back, thanks and next table...

Thank you guys! I had tons of fun last night with it. The usual routine was this: Card Warp opener, A bussiness card trick (eith the Nice List effect that appeared in the Nov. Linking Ring or, if no kids, another routine on a bussiness card. My finale was a signed/folded card-to-hand. There wasn't really the oppertunity (Or room) to do a chop cup routine, although I did take it along. This was a fundraiser for my local community theatre, so the goal was to turn tables fast and get them in, eating, and out because there was a big wait. So I kept it short, concise with not a lot of props, but at the same time hopefully did some successful networking on my behalf, and advertising our theater. Thank you guys!!!

Hi Matt b. Glad it went well for you. Just a thought about chop cup. I only do card magic but the one exception is the chop cup. I use a routine similar to the one in the loomis booklet and use the rnt2 don Alan petite cup ( I think petite ) anyway the cup I use allows an in the hands routine so table space not an issue with a final load of a large crochet ball and then a small lime. Always goes down a dream.
