Pascal's wager is a fine example of leverage - or in the phrasing attributed to Archimedes:
Give me an icon sufficiently bright, and a fear sufficiently primal to use as a fulcrum, and I can use rhetoric (words alone) to have people do what they want to believe they would not. What else do you have?
