This year I (we/the company) reached a limit. I need to mic up to 7 people. We got away with it passing a lapel back and forth offstage, and strategically placed omnidirectionals. This will not do long term.
I’m looking at this http://www.dak.com/Reviews/2030Story.cfm with the idea that I can use the 8-way box (same page) to plug directly into the house system. It looks like it uses ¼ inch plugs, that I’d need to “adapt” to XLR, but then (as I see it) everything could be run on a single channel of the house mixer board, with my guy controlling the individual mics. Am I even close to the right track here? Anybody actually tried this? Or have better (cheap) ideas? This is for a small troop that needs portability. We always count on an in-house mixer of from 16 to 32 channels being able to free up a line or two, but the available equipment is almost always stand mics. I want my own system! Help or advice, please?
...what if I could read your mind?

Nady is one of the companies that makes a wide variety of audio equipment. No need to go through DAK and their over-written sales copy. Nady's homepage is:
http://www.nady.com/ The DKW-1 is one of their inexpensive, "consumer"-level units. I have one, it works fine. Put "Nady DKW-1" into Google for more info on it, various musician's websites with it for sale, reviews, etc. Note that there are a lot of negative reviews of this unit recently; I can't address that, mine is a few years old. Quality could have gone down since I got mine. However, you're still looking at a very inexpensive solution. I can't address the mini-mixer's quality, but reviews on Musician's Friend website show that people either love it or hate it. I think your best solution, if you can afford it, is to pay more for higher quality equipment. Search the musician's websites (Musician's Friend, ZZounds, Guitar Center, etc.) for better solutions. |

These microphones are made by NADY, which is a low/medium-end wireless system. For occasional use, they are fine. With a wireless system, you are dealing with three components: the quality of the microphone, the transmitter and the receiver. It is true that you get what you pay for, so keep that in mind.
If you search this microphone online, you will find it for less than DAK, if cost is your main concern. See here: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q......Q8wIwBA# Good luck! |
