The brand new rough draft versions of the "Magic With A Message!" cable access programs are/about to be posted. Program #1 "MagicBob and Friends" is already posted: features MagicBob's/Duane Laflin's "Big Time Root Beer" routine, Duane's really excellent soft soap routine (used by permission), the "Phil" (Max Maven)card trick, Matt Fore's very funny (I laugh every time I watch it)$100 built bill to wallet (also used by permission) and much more. Program #2 will be posted by tomorrow, 1-6-2011, entitled "On The Logos Hope" and features tricks performed before a live children's audience on a missions trip including MagicBob's reprise of his wonderful seated rope escape. You can also see on the program being posted tomorrow the Dock Haley/John deVries "Jonah Paper Tear" which I am hoping Steve makes more of. We are filming again in Kalamazoo on March 16 another 1 hour special and hope to do a few things for Kif's/FCM podcast as well on that date. Thanks all- enjoy reading all your comments daily. Just go to the web site, click on the program you want to view, then click on the arrow on the lower left part of your screen. After the program downloads completely (you can start viewing video right away before that process is completed), you can fast forward through the entire program as desired. Program #1 "MagicBob and Friends" already posted for viewing. Program #2 "On The Logos Hope" should be up by 1-7-2011 on the web site. MagicBob had to fix/expand his hard drive memory- #2 should be on there by tomorrow. Sorry about the delay.

Thanks- it was a hoot to do these programs. We basically "wing it"- most of it done in one take- we just laugh and have fun. On program #1, if you listen very carefully when MagicBob is talking, you can hear faintly the blues band that was recording one studio over. It seemed REALLY loud to us at the time, MagicBob would just start laughing (when he produces the flower bouquet- for example- he is dancing- actually to the live music next door which our microphone did not pick up)-and when things beyond our control would happen- he would just roll with it. Our March 16 taping is going to feature "volunteer Gospel magic"- almost all the tricks will feature the use of volunteers chosen from the audience (to do such effects as Laflin's "Bible Way", for example). Thanks for watching! The web site should be finally completely fixed 1-7 for viewing both new shows.

I already have most of Laflin's DVD's so when he performed on the video I already knew those effects. I am looking forward to #2.

It is now posted- including a little snippet of the missions ship we were on- just the absolute perfect setting for a Gospel magic program.

Enjoyed the new Magic with a Message program. The application of the Chance Wolf effect "Eye Gotcha" was particularly interesting to me.

Ah Kif- there was no Gospel application on the "Eye Gotcha" other than me telling a pretty tall tale with it. You caught me, yikes. Was the first time I ever performed it though (have done it several times since)- kids just seem to love the goofy "french fry" lines- I really have no idea why. The french fries card came with the trick- purchased from Chance Wolf at Wolf's Magic.

The letter cards used with the "Eye Gotcha" (from Magic With A Message #2) are from the Laflin alphabet deck that
Duane/Laflin Magic sells. As mentioned earlier, when MagicBob performs the broken piece chain necklace to restored necklace effect, you can clearly hear in the background the live blues band that was playing right next to our little recording studio. At one point, MagicBob just started laughing and we had to start over again as the music was rocking us along. Pretty funny stuff. I encourage magicians to watch Matt Fore's "Burnt Bill to Wallet" on Magic With A Message #1- very, very funny routine performed extremely well in my view. If you buy Matt's DVD on comedy magic, he has live performances in various settings followed up by discussion regarding his presentation of the trick (including this one). |

Whoops, forgot to mention the web site again (which I love to do): http://www.ChristianMagician.org We sell nothing on the site, it's just where we post our video programs made for local cable access channels in SW Michigan. See you all at Abbott's Get Together in August in Colon!

Just another passing ramble: Sorry to hear about Terry Seabrooke's passing. Matt Fore used Mr. Seabrook's burnt bill to wallet routine ideas on our most recent Magic with a Message! #1 show. Terry was the MC for one of the evening shows at Abbott's several years ago- it was one of those shows where everything seemed to mess up- the sound would not work correctly- the lights would blink- acts were not ready quickly, etc.. Terry seemed to have pockets of additional magic stuff to do and lines to "ad lib"--- and another fine Abbott's program went into the books without a hitch. Just a wonderful example of a showman who knew what to do and what an audience expects in being entertained- they just want to know someone is "in charge" and will have a good time no matter what was going on. I am convinced this is some of the battle in any magic program, Gospel or otherwise, the performer/presenter him/herself needs to be having a good time or at least be very engaged and having a total interest in what is taking place. A boyish enthusiasm if you will. It matters not that the performer may have done the same lines or tricks 50 times before. I do not know if Mr. Seabrooke was a Christian or not, but I really admired his upbeat attitude that evening, even if things were not going perfectly as planned during that particular show.

We are introducing David Ginn's "Woof" dog as a character in our next March 16 filming, we would be interested of course in "borrowing" of any of your ideas out there that you may have used successfully that worked well with this flamboyant non-speaking cute cuddly creature...
