So what did people think of this one??
Ironically I was much more worried about this one than I was about the BBC's The Magicians! I think this was for two main reasons - One, because the initial concept I had read made it sound like some kind of dreadful, X Factor-style free-for all, and two, because Penn and Teller are fairly renowned for exposing magic at the best of times, and the concept of the show appeared that it would give them free reign to do just that for an hour! Fortunately, I neither of my fears really came to anything. Not only were the 'contestants' extremely talented, professional magicians, but I thought Penn and Teller were extremely well restrained in their post-mortems of each routine.. Particularly given that they were charged with the extremely difficult task of trying to prove that they knew how the trick was done in front of an audience of laymen. I problem which appeared to result in some confusion with the second winner (whose name I forget, my apologies!). Generally, I thought the standard of the magic ranged from good to very good (which was nice to see!) and even Jonathan Ross did a better job of presenting than Lenny Henry did for The Magicians! |

It was fun to see those talented folks at work. A red letter day for one guy. And that fine demonstration of what can be done using sleight of hand and a pack of cards (minus the cooler bit with a cut!!! in the show and its mention by Penn).
More please. And that's SOMETHING, not something else.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

There is a thread about this show in the magic names in the media section of the Café. Quite a few mentalists think that P&T went too far in the exposure of all the mental effects. I've not seen the show -it's a BBC thing, right?
