I was booked for a strolling gig. The particulars are.
Well dressed environment. Suits and ties. Cocktails, wine tasting and champagne. 2-3 hours of strolling. Pay is great for it. no complaints there. 200+ people Anyway.. its a Goldrush theme. That's all I was told. Not really too sure what to do.. I have a deck that looks like it old and western. Other then that. besides going and doing a full blown out costume. which I don't want to do.. what else? Gold tie? Gold coins? just stay more in a "gold" color instead of "goldrush western" costume. Im not linking how a goldrush theme party, is going to work with people dressed up in suite and tie, drinking wine... Any ideas? Thanks |

How about getting 4 small irregular shaped pebbles and painting them gold to look like nuggets. Then you can do the 2 in the hand and 1 in the pocket routine.

If you have time and a local magic or novelty shop you can pick up a couple of the "fake rocks" made of rubber or stiff foam and cut them down to "nugget' size & shape and paint them gold and use them as balls for the cups & balls. The paint might not last that long but you should be able to get through 1 night with them. I have a friend who used the rubber rocks and cut down to look like small stones (non gold) and his final loads were larger real rocks...works well for him and his patter. Also most of the US post offices issue the gold dollar coins as change in the stamp machines.(larger then a quarter smaller than a half) I don't know the "proper" name for these coins and I do not feel like google-ing it...LOL I was kinda confused, is it a "Gold Rush" as in "Gold in deem dar hills" or "Gold" as in color/attire??? If "Old West Gold" theme some other ideas: The Old "Coin Tray" trick where the tray is a gold pan for used panning. You could also produce a brick of gold (ala Paul Gertner's Triple Die Lemma) use the above mentioned gold nuggets instead of dice. And produce a brick that has been painted gold, or even a small pick hammer, kinda like the one Tim Robbins used in Shawshank Redemption...LOL And if the party is just about the color "Gold" then I would just stick to your normal stuff and maybe just do a few things with gold coins or a gold chain (Tricky Chain stuff)...That's about all I can come up with right now. Hope this helps and I wanna wish you good luck with the gig...Let's us know how it goes. Later & Out, RJ PS Almost forgot, Gold D'lites...Well maybe that one should have been forgotten... PSS I just noticed you're from OC (me too) so you should have no prob finding the materials you need. |

A Gold Rush Theme? possibly a old looking misers dream pale that you can carry around with gold kennedy halfs. I could see that being a great effect for the gig. or even a hat instead of the pale BOBO has a routine with the misers dream and the hat I think it was T.N.Downs routine.
