Part Rant - Part Crying - Part asking for advice.
Airline tickets are sooooo expensive. I am looking to fly into Miami International or Fort Lauderdale (Florida) for a much needed Vacation and what do I see? Tickets ranging in the $400 to $1,000. TO FLORIDA. I know there are many of you who travel a lot... what are the secrets? -Jacob

Lauderdale is usually cheaper than Miami and they are very close to each other. By chance are you looking after mid Febuary? Rates jump then.

Priceline? I booked to San Antonio in early March for about 240.

Although some complain about it, I've only had good experiences with Expedia. Be flexible about the exact day and time when you leave and arrive. The time of day and weekday/weekend arrival/departure can make a huge difference in the fare. And usually the earlier you book the better. Also be sure if there is more than one local airport to check all of them. Prices can differ there too.
But it is the high season now to Florida. We booked tickets for the same time period from New York to Ft. Lauderdale for about $300 r/t. It's about $100 cheaper in the warm weather.

Make sure you're staying over Saturday, maybe even Sunday.
Try Orbitz, travelocity, Priceline, etc. In '09 I got a round trip ticket to Zurich from Atlanta for $340. Last year the same time was $800. You never know now a days when the airlines are going to offer up a great fare.

That is what I love about living in Asia.
I am flying to Bali (from Taiwan) tomorrow and our 9 day vacation (flights and a 5 star villa) is costing us 1200 US each. Oh.... and we get free beer on the plane. Now you can only drink so much in 5 hours while taking care of a 15 month old and keeping the wife happy, but it's free!!!!!!!!!! |

I have a cruise planned going down into Jamaica that is leaving from the Port of Miami.
At this point, I am even considering driving down. I live in Michigan now. I miss NYC motown. I lived their for 3 years doing school and such and I can't wait to get back when I am done with school here in Michigan. Finding an apartment will be a pain too when that happens. Anyways. I am probably going to go through PRICELINE. They have a lowest price guarantee. So if the price drops on the flight before I take it, they will give me a refund on the difference. -Jacob

Make sure the price you are looking at includes taxes. Taxes on air tickets add hundreds of dollars.

About a year ago www.kayak.com seemed to offer the lowest prices. It's one of those "we compare all sites" wesbites. It was also featured on Good Morning America as one of the best sites to find low airfare rates. Not sure if it's as good as it once was though...

Prices will double into S. Florida in a couple weeks. See about another local in Florida and then rent a car or bus it.
