What does the North of England have to do with it?

On 2011-02-02 08:15, Davit Sicseek wrote: Not quite sure what you mean by that David. Anyway I'm p-ssed off because I wrote a huge post on this and it got lost somewhere. Here's another one! Suffice to say this: I have been doing this forever and didn't believe I'd learn anything that was actually NEW with regard to 'how to do this effect well', and I was right. However, 'in my experience' although the basics of The Abnormal Lift has been and always will be in a)effective witchcrafting and b)both positive and negative suggestion, David Newmen has constructed his own 2 things in this, his own presentation of it. The first has to do with an assumed psychic-ness which he told me that he personally believes in whilst claiming that it doesn't really matter whether or not the presenter DOES believe in, but rather that the participants should CONCEIVE that it MIGHT be possible. I get this. I DON'T believe in it (completely)but I absolutely get it and would concur with his conclusion (can't say more in an open forum). The second is his own standard operational procedure(SOP)in how he goes about this presentation. I decided to copy it in its entirety at the weekend and I have to say it worked a treat. In giving, taking away and re-giving the power. I even did it once in Spanish and it worked perfectly! So, what am I saying? I'm saying that, IMHO, someone who has done this over many many years will NOT learn anything that will vastly make it better. But I like it. I like it a lot. I'm also saying that someone who is NOT highly experienced in doing this WILL LEARN how to do it perfectly (assuming they have skills in presentation) and they will probably use it for the rest of their lives. I did NOT pay for this but rather agreed to do an honest review. There will be those that will know I've reviewed things before and that I'm not intimidated to say somthing is good when I think it is bad. I believe David Newmwen has very probably put years into this. It actually comes across in the read. Does it work? Yes, absolutely. Would anyone like it? I honestly cannot even begin to imagine anyone not liking it. The final question I suppose people will ask is: 'Is it worth $55?' And.... I honestly do not really know how to best answer it properly. For myself, someone who was already happy with his presentation of this, I'd have to say "No". But for someone who hadn't done this, or hadn't done it too well in the past or was lacking in a GOOD presentation of it, and the 55 bucks did NOT interfere with their standard of living, then it's a complete snip. In closing I feel I have to say this because it's really important, and I hope David will take it the right way LOL. What I loved about watching HIM present this was the fact that I didn't feel I was watching a great presenter in action. Now then I am NOT saying he is a BAD presenter. I AM saying he did this in a matter of fact way just like someone 'down the pub' as they say. And THAT, I think, is really important, as it suggests, very strongly, that just about anyone can take his SOP and do it successfully. I hope this helps. Bob

I must say after reading Bobser's post, I agree completely. I did purchase this and other than the fact that I couldn't play the videos (and still haven't seen them) I have done this for years, but still did like David's contributions, thinking and style. For the majority of those who buy this it will take their existing performance to the next level. For those new to this, this will be all you ever need. I also agree on Bobser's pricing comments and perspectives. Sometimes the price for something such as this separates the curious from the serious, which I believe he has accomplished here. Although I do wish he's send a copy to Tony, as I've always respected his perspectives and appreciated his knowledge. Often times when some of the great minds get these things (Tony, Looch, Greg A.,Andrew Gerrard, etc.) they are able to contribute and add to the original material, making it even greater.

I had not intended to post to this thread again, but it has come to my attention that someone outside this forum is misconstruing my words and using them against David.
David and I have talked off-thread and I have “NO DOUBT” that what he has come up with is “ORIGINAL TO HIS THOUGHT PROCESS AND WORK, AN INDEPENDENT CREATION” and is arguably the most in-depth, deepest, and most comprehensive exploration into this effect in print. It is not based on the work of anyone else (outside the concept of the Abnormal Lift), and similarities to anything else are coincidental. What he is offering is HIS work, thoughts, and presentational concepts. Everything I’ve read here about the actual manuscript says to me that it is exceptional. Also, I would like to thank Mindpro for his kind comments!!! But I prefer to purchase from my friends and colleagues to support them, I prefer to pay my own way. If I cannot afford the item, I go without. There are a few with whom I exchange concepts and ideas with and am grateful for this (they know who they are). I’d like to apologize for any confusion my comments here have caused. Tony Iacoviello |

I've just finished reading David's "Abnormal Lift." While the basic effect is not new, its origins lost in the veil of antiquity, it is nonetheless the most complete work I have ever seen on the subject. David has taken the effect to an entirely new level and has transformed it into a feature performance piece that I am very happy to recommend.

What a lovely recommendation from Mr. Cassidy.
I was with a group from MENSA last night. They'd hired me twice before. I'm not sure what it is with mensans but they seem to hate mentalists/magicians. They seemed tortured when I did my own version of Magic Square with a 'thought of' number. Anyway I closed with The Abnormal Lift (taking away and re-giving the power) and the silence was deafening, which I actually took as a good (no make that GREAT) sign. Afterwards their main guy asked me straight out how I did it and when I answered: "C'mon, you're a mensan. You know it's just a trick. Don't you?" I do believe he twitched. It was similar to a shock induction of sorts. But finally his face broke into a big smile before asking: "Are you free in May this year?". So, I'm back again... in May. Yes, David's fine tuning of TAL is lovely. Bob B
