Has anyone heard of daub being sold under the name "yin-yang daub"? Seems like a brand name, they seem to make containers with 2 different daubs or sets of 2 different daubs. I've seen Silver Sheen/Golden Glow, Red/Blue, Green/Teal, Dark/Light skin coloured, and border/face.
Anyone else run into these? Do you get a respectable amount? How's the quality? Will they last a good amount of time, or are they magician tools only? And as long as we're on about daub, anyone know where I'd get golden glow other than these "yin-yang" products? |

Mmmm, I just looked it up....I doubt that it is real daub for $20
If you buy it, I would look for the following problems with daub/paste products: 1) When applied, the daub tends to leave a dull area on the card which may be detected if light hits the card from the side. 2) The daub that used to be call "daub-the real thing" (or some name like) that used be be good for magic because it rubbed off easily to get rid of the evidence. But, if you wanted the mark to last for any length of time "the real thing" daub was not good. I have no idea wheat this "yin-yang" stuff is ? Maybe they just repackaged "the real thing" daub because it did not sell If you find out, please let us know what you think !

I've been told that most daub products are just repackaged shoe shine.

A lot of the old formulas were based on crushed Soapstone.
Today, much of what goes into women's make-up products (coal tar dye, talc, aluminium, etc) are a nice start for making your own Daub. A lot of the marketed daubs that use "sheen" or "glow" in their names are full of powdered aluminium. "How it's Done" by E.A. Litzau has many Daub formulas in it.........although some of the components (easily found in their day) might get you put on a terrorism "watch list" today. (this same book also shows up in an expanded version as "How it's Done - Cards and Coins"..........but missing the authors name. I have them both, and the Daub chapters are identical). |

There's no Daub Board one has to get their mix approved by. Believe it or not, there are people who can actually create these things themselves, with their own hands.......without paying somebody to give them the formula. |

Inevitably there are going to be some formulas that work better than others. I think this is what Expert was referring to as "professonal" versus "knock-off."

My point is only that you don't have to pay for the formula, nor do you have to buy the finished product for some ridiculously high price in order to get high quality, useable ("professional" if you must) daub.

Thanks for clarifying Side note: In addition to the formula, what is more important is the person using the daub. Hand actions are a major "tell" and the ability to read light and subtle marks is critical. Like everything in life, the quality of the tools and (more importantly) the operator skill level, insure success isn't it amazing that the more experience a person has, the "luckier" they are
