Okay, I just want to express my opinion in regards to the books that are chosen as the "best" book award! A lot of them do contain a lot of creative material! BUT, unfortunately that does not mean that they contain a lot of commercial AND practical material! For me, "Approaching Magic" has probably been one of my worst book purchases! Why? Because there is nothing that is practical! I purchased this book based on a video of an effect from the book! But, although it looks great on video, it isn't deceptive close up! I am sure David Regal is very creative, but it was clear from reading the book that a lot of the material really hadn't be worked continuously in the real world! At the magic castle, in a controlled environment, maybe...
There are so many other great books that are written by performers who have experience in the real world! For example, check out books by real professionals such as Geofferey Durham and Ian Keable! Eugene Burger etc! For those of you who aspire to working for money, don't be swayed too much by the "best book" awards!

Ok, so this went to a draw between "Dear Mr Fantasy" and "Approatching Magic". Congratulations to Mr Bannon and Mr Regal.

I say there should be a decider.
Next time they are in the same location, a neutral person shuffles a new deck, Mr Bannon and Mr Regal then take turns to each cut four cards, the highest single card wins. If both highest cards are of the same value then the next card decides it, and so on. If either is found to have cut to four aces, they are disqualified. |

Interesting that the two books remaining are written by two people who don't make their living from magic.
I vote for: "Tangled Web" by "Eric Mead" and "Magic By Design" by John Carney.
