Hello magic café !
I am beginning to be interested in effects using IT or loop, BUT I don't want a floating effect (it's too obvious, and I prefer a "big effort" for a one inch move:)) ! I'm looking for pk/moving effects done seated at restaurant with friends, etc... The book "Animated Miracles" and the DVD "Easy to Master Thread Miracles Vol 1" got my attention (but didn't buy it yet). Do you know any other source ? Is there some clips of such effects on the net? Thanks too all just reading this post Nicolas |

Go to the source Le Clair's book. Art of invisible thread. That is the bible of good work. Oh, and get a big magnifing glass too. Cheers.

Much of Le Clair's work involves extended floating of objects which, I think like papawemba, is too obvious.
Papawenba, here's something I came up with about 30 years ago that I used to do seated at restaurants with friends. This may sound somewhat cryptic because I don't want to be too specific in a public posting, so PM me if you don't understnad. In essence, I used a horizontal arrangement with one end in the "Wonderbar" type position and made a baby shrimp jump up and down on my hand. One time I did this and then called the waitress over and explained that my food wasn't cooked enough. Her eyes almost popped out of her head, and she immediately left and then returned with the manager so that I could show him. I just played dumb and said that I didn't know what she was talking about, and the rest of the table played along. It was a lot of fun. Regards, Larry D. |

Just like the time I pushed down on a trout, with a fork, the waitress brought and had a SQUEAKER in my hand... what fun we dopy magicians have....

Get Gaetan Bloom "fils indirect" from a french net shop. You will be baffled. It's exactly what you are looking for and there is no need to speak french to get it right.
Best work on that subject you can find.

The "Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread?" Book and Video by John LeClair are the two sources that I started with when I started using I.T.
I would recommend both! As for the Ammar videos they are also very good, the give you a broad overview of what I.T. can do, from reels to static hookups to dynamic hookups. I wish I could tell you that one or the other is better but I don't think I can... I would go with the Ammar video, because of the overview. But if you decide that the static hookup is right for you get the LeClair stuff!!!!

Pete, you're never too old to be immature...hmmm, sounds like a good title for my autobiography.
Papawemba, another good animation effect is Mesika's Haunted Pack using IT loops. |

There are so many responses in a few days!
Thanks a lot! Larry Davidson, your idea with the shrimp is excellent! I think I know the "Wonderbar” arrangement, but isn't it also like the "self folding dollar bill" arrangement? This is exactly the kind of effect I am looking for, thanks for the idea! Very funny situation. I will look for this "Gaetan Bloom fils indirect" and no problem with French because it is my mother thong! I have a Geatan bloom effect called "Cocorico-card". Great effect, a business card is standing vertical with no other support beside the table. Gaetan baffled everyone at the magic castle with this effect Also interested in IT loop but I prefer a book than a single effect. Thanks Mark Martinez, I am looking forward for "Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread?". I like these effects when at the end people say to me (not as a magician): "Did you see that?" and not "How did you do that?” => Extreme impromptu Just check the dscription of the video "Gaetan Bloom fils indirect". Excellent ! IT trick but no levitation or animation ! A must buy for me... |
