Aaargh! My LCD monitor tipped over, landing on my Taschen magic day calendar (great pics; highly recommended, btw) leaving a number of grey "smears" in the display area of the monitor. These appear to be inside the display, not on the surface. Anybody know if anything can be done about this? Or am I going to have magical imprints on my screen forever?

I had a friend who used to do historical recreation combat. she'd always proclaim after a particularly hard hit to her armour "Hit me, not the armour, I'll heal".
I'm afraid the same holds true for your monitor. People heal, parts don't. You will have magical imprints on your screen forever. At least until you buy a new monitor.
