When we had the TAOM convention in Houston two years ago, I was in charge of wrangling the lecturers. I took time out to see one close-up show. I arrived early so I could sit right on the center aisle seat directly across from -- Suzanne!
It was the second highest point of the convention for me. The best was after the convention was over. We had an open house and some magicians came over to see the cups and balls collection. Suzanne got the front row center seat this time!!!! It's a pleasure to see Suzanne work. She is aces!

She has just been nominated for "Close up magician of the year" at the Castle. I've seen her work there at lease six times and still am fooled by her.

Quite a while back there was dsalley13 (Doris), she was into close-up magic and just purchased a set of RNT2 Mini PF Combo Cups. She has not posted for long time… I hope all is well, she is a nice lady.
Thanks, Bruce |

Yeah I'd forgotten about Doris - we exchanged the occasional PM. I wonder what she's up to?

The sheer smoothness of her presentation was also amazing. That was very well polished, an inspirational on all levels. Thank you for discovering that video. |

I HAVE SEEN HER LIVE maybe six times and still don't totally understand the final load. She still has me fooled with the Band Aid routine.

S'funny, you see this exact same question posted on the guitar chat sites, which seem to have a similar gender ratio to TMC. When there is an actual female who excels at shredding on the geetar (and there are some great ones) - or even expresses an interest in the topic - everyone is amazed, as if she'd overcome some sort of handicap.

The delight of Kate Medvedeva's routine should be mentioned here. What about Suzanne's orginal effects and unique script, or Lisa Cousins? When women produce great routines, they get deserved recognition. Let's not feel guilty and self whipping for things we have no power over.
It's clear that women bring their gender's originality and specific angle to the effect and I regret like most, if not all of the male performers, that we don't have more of them enriching the effect. I will however not deny my pleasure or feel any guilt in watching over and over routines like (not exhaustive list) Kent Gun, Johnny Thompson, Fred Kaps, Paul Gertner, Tommy Wonder, Paul Daniels, John Mendoza, Frank Garcia, Duraty, Sam Leo Horowitz, Aldo Colombini, Antonio Romero, John Ramsay, Mike Rogers, Raphael Benatar, Bob Read, Dai Vernon, Scott York, Johnny Paul, David Williamson, Master Payne, Lawrens Godon, Larry Jennings, Richard Hatch, David Devant, Burtini, Jim Cellini, Gazzo, David Regal, Lance Burton, Tim Ellis, Ricky Jay, Horace Bennett, Michael Ammar, John Shryok, Dominique Duvivier, Al Schneider, Dan Fleshman, Bob White, Charlei Frye, Alex Elmsley, ..., and Bill Palmer PS: if I did see Prince Charles performing a very humorous routine at the London Magic Circle, I never saw Queen Elisabeth or Lady DI doing one and I don't think that they felt excluded...

Hi again, guys and gals!
Lawrence, since you mentioned Kate Medvedeva, I had to post a couple of videos to show the talent of this charming young Russian lady! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvRyq6igu2E and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_HsAEjZef0&feature=related Even though you may not understand what she is saying, the magic is there! Kate and Suzanne are just two of the talented women magic is blessed to have! I gotta tell ya, I'm impressed beyond my ability to express it! Doug |

Technically Suzanne gets quickly into original solutions to known problems but more than anything I'm extremely impressed by her non descriptive script and acting capability. With her voice controlling mastery (pitch, amplitude and pace) she is making the whole routine perfectly emotional without the story ever sounding over melodramatic or corny. Actually the script, without any apparent claim to it, is on the border of poetry in several instances.
Great great work ...and congratulation to one performer cannot be deemed to be implied criticism on the others
