I've seen Hal Holbrook as Mark Twain, Ralph Abernathy as Ben Franklin, James Getty as Abraham Lincoln. There are more, Trauman Capote, Charles Dickinson, Andrew Jackson. The actors get inside their characters and create improvisational, interprative presentations. I've never had an original idea in my life. I'm betting it's only a matter of time before we see someone doing say Houdin, or Houdini or maybe even a fictional, period magician.

I know there's a video of Paul Daniels playing I believe Max Malini. I don't know it this was a stage performance that was recorded. Also, Guy Hollingworth does a one man show based on The Expert at the Card Table. There was an article in Magic last year about it.

Max Howard as Augustus Reich (Gus Rich), The Wizard of the Blue Ridge.
http://www.miraclefactory.net/mpt/view.p......articles I believe Peter Pitchford does a tribute act to his grandfather, Cardini. Joe Kerrigan was portaying a Civil War Magician in the Gettysburg area at one time. I have seen photos of other historical portayal acts, such as Alexander Herrmann. There are loads of period magicians out there... more so since movies like "The Illusionist" and "The Prestige" came out. There is a forum here on the Café that deals with period magic.

Think of it as a cover band..like you would cover the style of magic from an Old-timer...that is a very brilliant idea..go for it!

If you bring back the oldies magic...that was the type that the audiences loved..todays magic has far too much glitz and glamor..dont you think so?...the old time magicians..like thurston, houdini, blackstone...

I don't know if this is ever going to happen, but I remember something about Hugh Jackman playing Houdini on Broadway in a musical.
