I am wondering about Robert Giobbi's Card College series. What is the difference between the two? What is CC Light series all about? Are they all different materials or it has repeats from CC? I have 1&2 but I am interested in finding out what the Light series is all about & is it worth to leave Card College & pick up the Light series?

Card college Light, Lighter, Lightest would fall under " self working" type of effects. CC is a wonderful way to learn your way through and around a deck of cards building solid base for sleight of hand magic with cards. There is no reason to leave one for the other both compliment each other quite well.

Thanks David, So the Light series are all about self working tricks then? That is good to know I like self working effects these are fun to do for beginners like me.

Card College Light is excellent. Quality material.

OK, this past Christmas I got Card College Lighter + Card College Vol 1. I asked for Card College books from laymen, and that's what I got!
If you want to learn fundamentals of card magic, I cannot recommend the base Card College series enough. Vol 1 is brilliant. There are wonderful "worker" effects in Lighter, but you get so much more "meat" in the base book, I would recommend that first. Some of the stuff in Vol. 1 run from brainless-easy ("practically sleightless") to intermediate and a couple of things I would call "hard", being a beginner. There is a section on forces, and I've found a new go-to force that I love. It also establishes a 'grammar' and 'map' level of description of card effects with very few equals (with the possible exception of Harry Lorraine's "The Magic Book"). All of the stuff in Lighter is very easy, so you just need to work on presentation and scripting. There is an occasional "self-working" sleight, or some tricks that work better with a sleight (false shuffle or something similar). That being said, I found one effect in Lighter that I absolutely love, and I've used it almost every chance I get! (My family accused me of using a trick deck when I presented it -- but it's totally sleightless and impromptu with a normal deck!) Both books have running commentary on what makes the effects successful and why. I love that. So, I guess it depends on what you want to learn: 1. Do you want to be able to do magic with *no* sleights and just work on the joy of doing magic? Get Card College Light. 2. Do you want to learn basic to intermediate sleights which can be applied to other effects? Get Card College vol 1.

There is some overlap between the effects in card college light and the the card college series-i think about 4 of the effects in CC lioght are in CC vol 1--Generally I like the CC version better than the light version (a few simple sleights can often make a self-worker much much better). Personally I didn't care that much for CC light--It actually costs slightly more than CC vol one for a lot less material.
