I really like the idea of this have seen it a few time. I really wish someone in the UK would take it on as a stock line. I have rescently bought a new table saw, and I had my first accident and sliced about 1/4" deep and 1 1/2" in length on my left thumb. It is healing nicely now although still a bit tender.

Instantly and violently stopping a high-speed saw blade? Sure, nothing can go wrong with that... The saw blade's probably shot. Just hope the blade doesn't shatter when the mechanism kicks in, or you may be picking shrapnel out of your face and ribcage. It's no substitute for basic workshop safety...
Though it can augment it. Having managed to shred my finger by bouncing it off a spinning router bit (which blew through everything in my annual Health Savings Account in the first week of last year) I can say from experience that it's much cheaper to replace a saw blade- or even the entire saw- than it is to just stitch up a finger. Re-attaching one? Hope you didn't plan on buying a new car anytime soon...

They had one of those on price is right... $3500 I think it was. The price will need to come down a bunch before you will see many fingers saved.

LOVE my Sawstop. Not only safe but an excellent table saw. Nicest I have ever used in my 60 years.

These are really popular with High School shops and the like. You ruin a blade and the sacrificial aluminum brake if it triggers. The brake is a replaceable cartridge at about $150 a pop I believe. There is a switch to deactivate the feature if cutting aluminum or green wood. It is still no substitute for intelligent safety techniques. Always amazing how some people don't use push sticks! If you are doing it correctly, your hands should be nowhere near the blade.

I agree with you entirely Craig but I don't know anyone who has cut themselves on a tablesaw that didn't "know" all the safety rules. It's that one moment that either you are in a hurry, forget, or whatever...
By the way, the replacement cartridges are $60. Most time it will ruin the blade so it has to be replaced. But better that than my hand. |

Man, I always use my push stick .. it's the same design as the very first one I had. It's all cut up ... but, I'll just make another using it as a template. I don't know how you do it Craig .. I think I ask you every time!
