I don't do this trick although I'd like to start. Just wondering if it's workable for strolling. Also, can someone recommend a high quality package containing all materials, instructionals etc?

I recently purchased Mark Wilson's package (Alakazam Silk to Egg) which is offered by Hocus-Pocus. It comes with a DVD showing exactly what you need to perform this routine. It's a great product.
One could probably pull it off as a close-up routine, but it goes over much better as a part of a larger show. The main problem with doing it as strolling is that you need to crack the egg to show that it's a real egg. How are you going to work out the logistics of such a thing in order to perform it over and over? Where do you keep all the eggs? Where do you clean the container after each performance? One would be better off doing the trick once in a parlour/stand-up setting where you have access to a table to store the props, and using other tricks in a strolling environment, IMHO. Best, MJ |

One way to do it in a walk-around or tablehopping setting is "Silk to Easter Egg." I used a Rice diagonal rainbow silk and a decorated (dots and stripes) plastic Easter Egg with this. You play it straight, including removing the "hole" from the egg. You hand over the egg to be popped open the "normal" way and instead of the rainbow silk, it contains a white silk with a yellow "yolk" imprinted on it. Reset is just a matter of handing out some wrapped candies with "You were expecting these?" and exchanging the candies for the silk yolk, then stuffing the yolk back into the hinged "unholey" egg and you're good to do it again for the next group.

I also got mine from Bob and you can definitely do it walk around with a a little practice. I'm an egg bag guy myself but like to change things up a bit now and then.

What is Bob's website? Do you feel he offers the best quality egg and DVD instructional?

I agree with MJ, Doing the sucker egg routine in a walk around setting would be kind of difficult, just due to the resetting...Besides who wants to waste a half dozen to a dozen eggs one night...It wouldn't be so bad if you were using them to hit a house...

It isn't necessary to break the egg to do a good silk to egg routine. Bob sells ceramic eggs that are the best. You can reach him with a PM right here on the Café. I didn't get a DVD but some written materials. .

I don't mind only doing this on stage. Apparently Vernet has a version that is self contained and no switch is needed. Any other solid versions out there beside Bobs?

It seems that the sucker routine is a great routine because the fake egg turns into a real egg; the convincer is breaking the egg to show that the contents are real and that the silk isn't hiding inside like it was for the first show. I guess with vernet's version you don't have to do a switch. then again you are left dirty in more ways then one.

In my opinion I think the Tenyo Egg is still the best on the market...perfect size and a perfect flat white finish. And for about 10-15 bucks it's well worth it.

Silk to Egg is a great trick. I do it often. I would highly suggest getting the one put out by Viking magic. It will last you forever. It is the one Whit Haydn uses in his Magic Castle teaching act. Comes with silks too! You can get it in white or brown. I would not get the Vernet version especially for walkaround. The gimmick is too easy to identify, and it does not look convincing in my opinion. It's only like 5 bucks though. You can buy it for yourself to see if it fits your needs.
For walk-around? Hard to say. It works for close-up or stage, but like a lot of the other guys have been saying, that would mean a lot of eggs. If you wanted to do a surprise production of something, the chop cup is a traditional favorite at the tables. I use a potato in my coins to glass routine. If you really wanted to use it though, may just do it once a night for a special table- Maybe the guest of honor or in a restaurant for the owners family or something? I hope that helps you. Best of luck with it! |

It's my understanding that Whit uses an extra large or jumbo Tirofog egg that's been strengthened on the inside with a thin coating of Durham's Water Putty. |

Right you are, Donal. I was reading up on the trick some time ago and found this:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 I think I got Whit's comment mixed up with some of the other discussion. By the way, thanks for your writings on the trick (silk egg) and the props for it in the Café. They were great resources in picking which one to purchase. I stumbled on it in the forums several months ago. I did settle with the Viking egg for reasons that you mentioned (weight plus use with the shuffle pass) Thank you for the correction! David Kuraya |

Hey guys the Viking Silk to Egg looks good to me. Is the routine provided sufficient enough? Is the routine provided the same as the one whit uses? Also, What kind of silks are provided? I rather buy an extra matching red one alone with the other colors provided.

Perhaps one of these threads will help. Walk-Around Silk to Egg resets and can be repeated. That is specifically why I developed the routine four decades ago.
