I know the type of list you are referring to, back in the early 70's I worked with them.
That new fangled thing called the internet though comes in pretty handy.....LOL Search under various cities for associations, clubs, sports, recreation, usually the city directory/guide has lists of groups within their cities. This is if you wish to work in a geographical framework ie. 20 miles form base. What type of show do you do? Perhaps law firms, accounting firms etc. all listed on-line, or in the Yellow Pages The yellow pages (whats' that??) for my city has 3 1/2 pages of associations (close to 600 associations listed). You can also visit locations where these events are held and leave your matierials. You can also join the local Chamber of Commerce which will not only give you the member company names, but their contacts and contact information also. Hope this is a start. Blair

Blair, I did try the Internet but it was either my poor search functions or me being overwhelmed.
Can you give any examples of a site. Yes, I work within a travel range of home base. I find that many business and companies like to hide behind trees and out in the middle of nowhere. As far as clubs those list use to have science clubs and engineer clubs that I got a lot more work from then VFW's. Maybe there are no more clubs like that, but I have no idea how to find them if they are out there. I also got work from ladies clubs that held luncheons. Is there a thing as this and civic clubs any longer? How would one go about searching for them? |

I get mine from a company called Melissa Data. You can search all sorts of parameters and then you download the list (for a price) in your preferred format.

I searched "Fort Wayne" "associations" and came up with the following Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce site.
http://www.fwchamber.org On it you will find listings of members by category etc. Do this search for other cities/towns in your area. For clubs and groups go to the national umbrella and look for local chapters/lodges etc. You must have built up your own list of customers though?? Blair

Blair, you would not believe how many companies have gone out of business in this city and surrounding area. I am looking for new companies and organizations that have been created hopefully. We use to be heavy in manufacturing, both consumer and government. They have all moved or went out of business.
The city has not decided which high tech area of employment it wants to try to draw to the area. I am sure you have heard of Navastar, they left several months ago, this was high paying engineering jobe only for the design and creation of trucks. So we really do not have much in Fort Wayne itself. |

I find the toughest list to get is the small-town festivals. I mean the REALLY small town festivals. Those groups that do not join organizations, and call themselves names other than "fair" or "festival." The names might be "Bigsville Gizmo Days" or "Yazoo Western Weekend" or some such thing. Bob at the hardware store is told to find some entertainment. And the hardest to find are generally the most valuable.
