Do an of these online printers have actual people you can talk to to discuss your project? I use Vistaprint a lot, but it's pretty much a do-it-yourself type place. I would be very concerned, especially when printing the quantities being discussed here, that the back on from be properly aligned. I could very easily see the back side bieng printed upside-down when compared to the front side!

Cant speak for all of them as well as I use a different printer most of the time but I can speak for Gotprint yes they have people you can talk to and you also get a proof prior to printing so that you know exactly how it will look when printed then you approve that and your good to go. they also have live chat during the biz part of the day or just call them.
the quality is pretty good for the price as well. sam

Brad is a dynamic marketer and a pro's pro magician, I have and use his "It Factor" series with good success. My only objection on Brad Ross's dollar bill is the cost of 97.00 seems over priced to me.
Posted: Apr 29, 2011 2:13pm Both Brad and Michael have the same back design Which one owns the rights? |

Gary -
The short answer is that Brad got permission from Michael. More details on this thread. - Donald

If you have modest Photoshop skills, and understand what your printer needs, then, yes, you can make one of your own and save yourself $97. For some people, it's worth the $97 to get something ready to go (of course, you'll still need some Photoshop abilities to customize it, but that's part of the purchasing decision.) I still wish that the Ed Harris stuff would come available again. While to some it may seem dated (and I guess it is for many applications), I think that it is so clean and simple that it lends itself very well to this type of use. |

I still have some of his slicks and use them for magic brochures. I am thinking of getting Mr. Greggy's Instant author book and selecting several tricks for the back. I then still have the instant author kit. |

I had the illustrations custom made by an artist friend. Brad did get permission from me to use the same trick instructions on his bill as mine but I still own the copyright to the illustrations and instructions. As for the color versus black and white bills, I know kids are used to a color world but the front of my bill looks like a real dollar bill and that goes a long way with kids. When I bring them out at a restaurant, the kids ooh and ahh at the giant bills they get. They do ask if they can spend them! My specific reason for updating the Ed Harris version (I got permission from Eric Paul who owned the rights to the Ed Harris art) was I wanted something that looked more like a real bill and didn't look cartoonish. The cartoon look didn't fit my style so I went with a more realistic look. Brad's version is more cartoon like but much more up to date. So, if it fits your style, it should work great. If price is an issue, my bill template is approximately 25% the cost of Brad's at $24 and includes a pretty thorough explanation of how to customize the bill for your use. (It does require some knowledge of Photoshop or a similar photo editing software but I am glad to help anyone who needs it.) If you have any questions, fell free to send me a private message. I currently am using the Michael Messing dollar bill and have been thinking seriously about "upgrading" and investing in Brad's colorized version. Nothing wrong with Michael's...I just thought that the color ones might be more of a perceived value to a child or a mom and not be thrown away as easily, thereby getting more gigs.
After reading this thread, and also Brad's webpage (http://www.makemagicmoney.com/dollarbill.html) the only reservation I really have about buying them is that all of the testimonials are from his buddies. Not to insinuate they are not genuine opinions and testimonials...they may be. But it is much easier to gush over someone you know and call your friend. Is there anyone who doesn't know Brad personally that has purchased this license and has seen noticeable results? |

May I ask how you own the copyright on a public domain trick?? I understand that if you had the artwork done that is fine but the instructions are in library books for these effects not to mention the dozen or so magic books on my book shelf
does t his mean we can use these tricks as you say you have the copyright to them. I have been using 3 of them for about 10 years in my magic class and included in my magic set. just trying to understand the legal mumbo jumbo here so not to step on any toes. although I am not a fan of these "magic dollars" who ever makes them I do give out a full color picture with these and other magic tricks on the back. thanks in advance on clarifying the details sam

Sam, I think Michael meant that the exact instructions with his wording, as well as the drawings he commissioned, are copyrighted ... probably the entire layout of the bill. As you indicated, anyone can use those tricks, or re-write them with your own wording, or make up your own bills. Heck, you can even use those exact tricks if you'd like, as long as you don't lift Micheal's art.

No "legal mumbo jumbo" here. Mark (Starrpower) is exactly correct. If you notice, I posted that I own the copyright to the illustrations and the instructions not the tricks.

I now have B&W versions of my Learn Magic instant author kit which feature many line drawings that you could use to add to your jumbo bills. I've never used biils before, but if Ken Scott uses them, they must be working!
