Most of you are probably aware of the outbreak of tornados throughout the South. Many areas were hit hard, and Alabama suffered some of the worst.
I lived there for many years, and moved to Illinois last fall, but I still have family and friends there. I talked to my son last night and he and his mom are ok, and I spoke to one of my friends today... likewise ok. But, there are still many people who I don't have reports on yet. Communication is difficult in some areas due to power outtages, etc. Many areas I am very familiar with were hard hit. Someone had asked how they can help, so I am posting these links. They are to the major TV stations in Birmingham, and all will have info on the best way people can offer their help. http://www.myfoxal.com/ http://www2.alabamas13.com/ http://www.abc3340.com/ http://www.cbs42.com/default.aspx Thanks! ~michael

Hope you're well. Horrendous tornado in Tuscaloosa, too. One of the worst I've ever seen happened in Smithville, Mississippi. Entire town GONE in 10 seconds. I've been there, worked there and used to know people from there in my days in the world of radio. If you or any family or friends are there, I'm wishing the best for you/them. When I say GONE...it's everything. Totally, from what I've heard and seen.

Several communities in Alabama the same. Still a lot of power outages, and Tuscaloosa had two main water towers destroyed. I have talked to friends in various parts of the state and am hearing terrible things, but fortunately they (my family and friends) are all ok.

Talked to my daughter that lives in Margret Al. They were very lucky, house is still standing and power is on. They took in two families that weren't so lucky. Her husband had to drive to Jacksonville just to buy groceries. She says things are very bad in Central Alabama. People and businesses have no power, they can't buy food and things they need to clean up. Lots of folks have no shelter because of the damage. Many people lost everything. Reports are that one of the largest tornado started in Tuscaloosa and did not stop until it got to Birmingham; a full hour's drive away.
These folks need our prayers for the loss of life and property and they need our help. Donate to the Red Cross, the Salvation Army or get with your local church. |

Hi David,
I know exactly where Margaret is. I lived just outside the Trussville area, and have many friends there, Argo, Margaret, Springville, etc. Much of that area falls under the Trussville mail routes. My son had mentioned that parts of Trussville had been hit but he didn't know exactly where. The areas southwest of Birmingham that were part of the same tornado that hit Tuscaloosa were the same communities flattened by an F-5 back in 1998. Having witnessed that previous storm's destruction first hand, it's hard to imagine those people having to endure it yet again. There were actually many tornados that went through that part of the state. I have spoken with family and friends from various parts of Alabama, and fortunately they are all ok. Virtually every community mentioned on the news were areas where I had family or friends. It was scary until I knew how they were. Power and phones have been out. Magician Robert Jones is from Ringgold, GA, another area hit pretty hard. I don't know anything about what's going on there.
